This year’s 2014 Great Pootatuck Duck Race on May 24 drew a bustling crowd. Parents and children filled the river’s banks in Sandy Hook Center, lining fences along the water near The Foundry, and across the rushing current, filled the lot behind Porco’s Karate Academy on Church Hill Road.
The 2014 Great Pootatuck Duck Race will take place on Saturday, May 24, from 10 am until 2:30 pm.
This year’s race features a new co-operative arrangement between Newtown Lions Club and the Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP). Returning to the sidewalk fair presented during the first few years of the Duck Race, vendors and volunteer organizations will display their wares and share information along sidewalks within Sandy Hook Center as well as within the park area at 3 Glen Road.
Melissa Lopata, the new marketing coordinator for Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP), has announced her first event to help support local Sandy Hook businesses.
“It is a fun and informative fundraiser for Sandy Hook Organization For Prosperity and a great way for SHOP to reach out to local women-owned businesses and provide them with very motivating, innovative, and strategic marketing ideas,” Ms Lopata said in a notice to The Newtown Bee March 26.
Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) has selected Melissa Lopata of Newtown as the marketing coordinator for Sandy Hook Village. Ms Lopata will be introduced at the Sandy Hook Village Action Planning Workshop on Wednesday, March 12.

The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) is looking for a marketing and communications professional to implement its new Sandy Hook Community Branding Campaign. The organization’s new “brand steward” will utilize the new community brand to create marketing pieces for Sandy Hook Village businesses and incorporate the brand identity with the village and SHOP events.
