NEW YORK CITY, New York – Entries for the 125th annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show – scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, February 12 and 13, at Madison Square Garden – closed in less than one hour when the limit of 2,500 entries was reached.

Westminster, recognized as the most prestigious of America’s dog shows, is the oldest, continuously held sporting event in the country – with the exception of the Kentucky Derby, which is 20 months older.

American Kennel Club champions of all 158 currently-recognized breeds and varieties will be represented at the show. Leading the entries again will be the three varieties of Dachshunds (66), followed by Labrador Retrievers (44), Golden Retrievers (42), Australian Shepherds (41), Pointers (39), Borzois (38), Chinese Shar-Pei (37), American Cocker Spaniels (37), and Rottweilers (36).

Two breeds exhibiting for the first time will be Spinone Italianos (eight entries) and Jack Russell Terriers (seven entries).

The Working, Terrier, Toy and Non-Sporting breeds and varieties will be benched and judged during the day on Monday, February 12, and their groups will be judged on Monday evening. The Sporting, Hound and Herding breeds and varieties will be benched and judged on Tuesday, February 13, during the day and their groups will be judged on Tuesday evening followed by Best in Show.

Group competitions will be televised each evening beginning at 8 pm on the USA network.
