A Nice Watercolor Workshop

NEW CANAAN — Don Nice, a nationally recognized painter known for his realist watercolors and paintings based on nature, will give a five-day watercolor workshop, January 17-21, at Silvermine School of Art. Advance registration is required for participation.

“Wind, Fire, Earth and Water,” the basic forces of nature, will be the inspiration for students of all levels, who will create personal, individual studies while exploring various watercolor techniques. Mr Nice will review all watercolor methods so a beginner can move forward and a seasoned painter can expand on known techniques.

Studio discussions will cover historical references and students will be encouraged to experiment freely with the potential of watercolor papers and collage.

A Director’s Choice exhibition of paintings on aluminum by Mr Nice, called “Earthscapes,” is on view in Silvermine Galleries from January 9 through February 6. The artist will give a slide talk on his work in the school’s auditorium on Sunday, January 30, at 4 pm.

For registration or further information on Mr Nice’s workshop, call the Silvermine School of Art at 203/966-6668. The school and its art galleries are at 1037 Silvermine Road in New Canaan.
