Ballroom Dance Lessons To Resume At NMS

After last fall’s very successful swing, cha-cha and slow dance classes, the Newtown Middle School is continuing its after-school ballroom dancing lessons toward the end of this month.

A new series of dances will be taught on five successive Thursdays starting on January 20, 2000. The classes will explore dances not yet taught at the Middle School. With no pre-requisite to the dance lessons, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who want to learn about dancing as well as students who have attended the previous classes are welcome.

All after-school classes will be held at the cafeteria and taught by a professional instructor of a leading dance school located in Danbury. The dates for the classes are January 20, 27, and February 3, 10, and 17 with February 24 set aside as a snow date.

The cost is $30 per student. Interested students should enroll by January 13. For more information, please contact Dr Virginia King, Middle School assistant principal, at 426-7630.

A former employee of WNHS Channel 6 in New Haven (the first television station in Connecticut) says the first program the station aired may have been a wrestling match.
