Madrigal Ensemble To Perform In Ridgefield
RIDGEFIELD â On Sunday, January 16, at 4 pm, the New Canaan High School Madrigal Ensemble, under the direction of Art Sjogren, will appear in concert at St Stephenâs Episcopal Church.
The madrigal ensemble is an ensemble of 27 young people from New Canaan. Performing in 16th Century costume, they sing repertoire that ranges from Renaissance madrigals to contemporary motets.
The ensembleâs concert tours have brought them to countries all over the world, including England, France, India, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Thailand, Brazil, and Argentina. Their performances have been critically reviewed both locally and overseas as âwell-balanced and sensitive to pitch, nuance and diction.â
The January 16 program will include Haydnâs St Nicolas Mass, Debussyâs Trois Chansons, as well as Renaissance madrigals, motets by Hassler, Stanford, Britten and Palestrina, and folk songs from many nations.
Admission to Sundayâs concert is free; donations are welcome. For additional information, call 203/438-3739. The church is at 351 Main Street (Route 35) in Ridgefield.
