High School Theft

Police report they charged a 15-year-old male student at Newtown High School with sixth-degree larceny on the afternoon of December 20, after he allegedly stole a female student’s digital music player from her backpack there.

After the arrest, police placed the boy into the custody of his mother for a January 7 appearance at Danbury Juvenile Court. State law conceals the identities of people under 18 who are charged with crimes.

Key Rock Collision

About 8:15 am on December 14, motorist Lisa Nicholson, 31, of Thomaston, was driving a 2005 Toyota Matrix sedan southward on Key Rock Road, when she saw a northbound school bus approaching, police said.

Nicholson then braked the Toyota in the event that she might need to stop for the bus, police said.

The Toyota then skidded, went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Southbound motorist Mario Gutierrez, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Infiniti G-35 sedan, then braked and skidded, striking the Toyota from behind, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Nicholson to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible neck injuries, police said.

Gutierrez received an infraction ticket for following too closely, police said.

Car Vs Pillar

About 9:45 am December 13, motorist Rebecca Stephens, 23, of 12 Meadow Brook Road was driving a 2002 Hyundai coupe eastward on Botsford Hill Road, when the auto spun around due to snowy road conditions, police said.

The vehicle’s front end then collided with a bridge pillar, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Stephens to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Police issued Stephens an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to carry an automotive insurance card.

    

Glen Road

Motorist Daniel Ladrigan, 76, of Southbury, who was driving a 1989 Dodge Aries sedan northward near 68 Glen Road at about 4 pm December 20, fell asleep at the wheel on a curve in the road, after which the Dodge drove up a snowbank and flipped onto its left side, police said.

Ladrigan was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

Hanover Road

Motorist Gregory Cinicolo, 51, of 111 Hanover Road was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck northward on Hanover Road about 6:45 pm December 26, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the truck, police said. The deer then ran off. Cinicolo was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Salon

About 7 am on December 27, police responded to Ricci’s Salon at 99 South Main Street to investigate a report of a burglary there.

Sometime between the evening of December 24, and morning of December 27, someone entered the salon and removed an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 426-5841.

Wrangler Crash

Motorist Jennifer Samson, 17, of 197 Hanover Road, who was driving a 1989 Jeep Wrangler northward on Hanover Road about 8:30 pm December 30, was negotiating a curve in the road when the vehicle went out of control, struck an embankment on the right side of the road and then rolled onto its side, police report.

Samson was not injured. Samson received a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Castle Hill Crash

While traveling near 57 Castle Hill Road about 7:24 pm December 27, motorist Dale R. Harris, III, 17, of 213 Sugar Street, who was driving a sedan, slid on the wet pavement, went off the road and struck a tree, police report. Harris was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

CRV Rollover

Motorist Susan Jaques, 43, of Milford was driving a 2001 Honda CRV northward on Hattertown Road about 5:40 am December 28, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the vehicle went out of control on the icy pavement, went off the left side of the street and climbed a snowy embankment, where it turned sideways and then rolled over, coming to rest on its wheels on Abbotts Hill Road, police said.

Jaques was wearing a seatbelt, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported her to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went to the accident. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Four MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Lisa Colon, 33, of Southbury near 14 Riverside Road about 9:15 am December 28, because she did not have a front marker plate and she was displaying a partially mutilated vehicle registration sticker.

After investigating, police charged Colon with having insufficient automotive insurance, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and with failure to display a front marker plate.

Police released Colon on a written promise to appear January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vandalism

Sometime between December 24 and 26, someone vandalized two commercial properties in Botsford, police said. The damage occurred at Swanky Frank’s restaurant at 314 South Main Street and at Joann’s Fitness Studio at 316 South Main Street. The crimes committed include criminal mischief and criminal trespassing. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact Officer Felicia Figol at 426-5841.

Exit Ramp

Police said they stopped motorist Deandra Humphrey, 21, of Waterbury for driving too fast on the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 on the afternoon of December 28.

After investigating, police charged her with traveling too fast for conditions, driving with a suspended license, and driving with faulty brake lamps.

Police released Humphrey on a written promise to appear January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Volvo Vs Chevy

About 10 am December 27, motorist Constantine Klarides, 17, of Bethany, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastward near 33 Church Hill Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Joshua Powers, 19, of 18 Merlin’s Lane, who was driving a 2001 Volvo S-60 sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Powers received an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Van Onto Wall

Motorist Jose Concepion, 30, of Bridgeport was driving a commercial 2003 Chevrolet van southward on South Main Street about 3:25 pm December 26, when he felt some vibration in the steering wheel, after which the vehicle pulled itself to the left and then struck a stone wall in front of the Highland Plaza construction site at 123 South Main Street, police said.

The vehicle came to rest atop the wall. Ambulance volunteers transported Concepion to St Francis Hospital in Bridgeport to be checked for injuries, police said. Police issued Concepion a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Hawleyville Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and the Exit 9 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 about 7 pm December 20.

Motorist Alison Cooke, 38, of South Salem, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Honda CRV southward on Hawleyville Road and then attempted to turn left to enter the on-ramp, when the Honda collided with motorist Michael Neiman, 62, of 6 Fox Run Lane South, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck northward on Hawleyville Road, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported both drivers to the hospital for treatment, police said. Police issued Cooke an infraction for making a restricted turn and for driving without a license.

Berkshire Crashes

Police report that two two-vehicle collisions occurred in the same area on Berkshire Road about 5:15 pm December 24.

All four vehicles were traveling eastward on Berkshire Road, as traffic backed up in the area, police said.

Motorist Kathryn Sudbey, 19, of Cider Mill Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota van, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist John Salley, 42, of Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 2005 Nissan station wagon, police said.

Motorist Vincent Romagnoli, 45, of Suffern, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Ford station wagon, then stopped behind the Nissan and the Toyota, after which Romagnoli’s Ford struck from behind by a 2005 Honda coupe driven by Maureen Shimko, 48, of Serenity Lane, police said.

 There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Salley and Shimko for following too closely.

Interstate DUI

State police said they observed motorist Fausto Tello, 20, of Ossining, N.Y., swerving on westbound Interstate 84 while traveling between Exit 13 and Exit 11 about 1:30 am December 23, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police then charged Tello with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane, driving without a license, and criminal impersonation.

Tello posted $5,000 bail and was released from custody for a January 7 court appearance, state police said.

I-84 DUI

State police said they spotted motorist Egardo Bocachica, 34, of Waterbury not driving in the proper lane on eastbound Interstate 84, between Exit 9 and Exit 10, about 3:15 am December 22, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. Bocachica was released on $500 bail for a January 7 court appearance.

Highway DUI

About 3 am on December 22, state police said they spotted motorist Mildred Gonzalez, 37, of Danbury driving at a very low speed and then stop her vehicle in the right lane of eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, so they investigated.

State police charged her with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane, and driving while under suspension.

Gonzalez posted $500 bail for a January 7 court appearance, state police said.

Gadget Gone

Police report that someone stole a black iPod music player with a touch screen, which was enclosed in a black leather case, from inside a student gym locker at Newtown High School. Police said they learned of the theft on December 19. The crime involved is fifth-degree larceny, representing the theft of items worth more than $250. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.

Six Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Justin Gaynor, 20, of 150 Head O’ Meadow Road on Appleblossom Lane on the night of January 1 because the vehicle Gaynor was driving had headlamp and taillamp violations.

After investigating, police charged Gaynor with failure to have a working headlamp, failure to have working taillamps, driving with a suspended license, possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they held Gaynor on $1,000 bail for a January 2 court arraignment on the charges.

Evading

Police said that on the afternoon of December 31, they charged Zlata Dedic, 24, of 4 Buck Trail with evading responsibility.

The charge stems from an incident at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in which Dedic, while driving a vehicle, allegedly struck a parked vehicle and then drove off, police said. A witness to the incident provided information that led to the charge being lodged, police said.

Police released Dedic on a written promise to appear in court on January 15.

Big Y

Police said they received a call from store security staff at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on the night of December 29 concerning a shoplifting incident.

Police said they went to the scene to investigate and then charged Morgan Roberts, 37, of 6 Dogwood Terrace with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly shoplifting about $30 worth of merchandise at the store.

Police released Roberts on a written promise to appear in court on January 15.

Icy Road

While driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northward near 55 Toddy Hill Road about 6:30 am December 28, motorist Samantha Novia, 21, of 56 Botsford Hill Road encountered an icy area, police report.

 Novia braked, but the Ford went out of control, climbed an embankment and then struck a utility pole, dislodging and splitting the pole, police aid.

Novia was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast.

SUV Off Road

About 10:12 pm December 30, motorist Marcela Campo-Libreros, 18, of New Milford was driving a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 eastward near 146 Currituck Road, when while making a curve in the road, the vehicle went out of control, went off the westbound road shoulder and then struck a mailbox and some rocks, police said.

Campo-Libreros was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Saturn Vs Deer

Motorist Jose Cruz Monteiro, 57, of Danbury was driving a 2007 Saturn station wagon northward near 121 Hattertown Road about 5:30 pm on January 1, when a deer entered the road, collided with the vehicle and then ran off into the woods, police said. Monteiro was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

BMW Accident

Police report that motorist Anthony Santella, 21, of 12 Yearling Lane was driving a 1992 BMW 325-I sedan northward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with The Boulevard, about 12:05 am December 28, when a deer ran onto the street.

Santella steered to the left to avoid a collision, but the auto went out of control, went off the southbound road shoulder and traveled down an embankment, striking a small tree, police said. Santella was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

DUI Charge

Police report they spotted motorist Patricia McDonald, 43, of 22 Taunton Ridge Road driving a SUV that was moving erratically northward on South Main Street, near Sugar Street, early on the morning of January 1, so they stopped the vehicle to investigate.

Police said they charged McDonald with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance. After she posted $100 bail, police released McDonald for a January 15 court appearance.
