FAIRFIELD, CONN. â Ulla Surland is currently showing the work of Matthew Imperiale through February 21.

Imperiale has lived in New York City since 1977. The city as well as personal experiences and observations are a key element in this series of eclectic and creative collages. Created from objects found on the streets and back alleys, collected and transformed over the years, this series reflects not only the artistâs concerns about a society mesmerized by consumerism and mired in its own wastefulness, but also his own profound and deeply humorous autobiographical journey.

Combining color and design, exquisite details, layers of objects and paint, Imperialeâs work is as intimate as a diary. Though full of social commentary, his work is humorous, friendly and a delight to explore. There is no finger wagging or self-righteousness here, only questions, irony and delightful parables.

A lot of things have changed in Sandy Hook shopping area. The old bridge was no longer needed, the town helped create parking , brick sidewalks and classic street lights were added, and zoning was adjusted to add housing. Spending money on a bridge from nowhere makes no sense, focus on things that will add to the viability of the Sandy Hook Center.

I was the recipient of such a invasion of my privacy when my daughter was visiting her boyfriend in Waterbury. They tried to get me to pay them taxes instead of Newtown. They were rude, offensive and threatening and I had to call the mayor of Waterbury to finally get it cleared up after being threatened. It was a long drawn out process to get this overturned. Are we that broke that we have to turn our residents over to these mercenaries? This is beyond belief. How dare you hire these rent a cops to harass and threaten us?

Thanks for the quote, many people don’t realize Newtown does not exist in a silo and we have peers to benchmark against. For example Trumbull also spends less per student and outperforms us. ALL students benefit from consistent policies and quality education. Affordability matters, especially to less affluent families which tend to skew more heavily minority based on census data.
