Two Warrants

Police report that at about 4 pm on December 31, they responded to a Bennetts Bridge Road residence to provide medical assistance there.

After investigating, police said they realized that there were two outstanding arrest warrants for a man at that location.

Based on a Newtown police warrant, police arrested Michael Castagna, 40, of Trumbull on a charge of violation of probation, police said.

Based on a Woodbury police warrant stemming from an April 2008 incident there, police arrested Castagna on charges of disorderly conduct, second-degree burglary, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree criminal mischief, and two counts of first-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said they held Castagna on bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Drug Arrest

At about 7:36 pm on December 30, police spotted a vehicle driving at high speed on Philo Curtis Road, near its intersection with Quail Hollow Lane, so they stopped it to investigate.

Police said they then brought their German shepherd to the scene to search the vehicle for drugs, after which they charged an unnamed youth under 18 with possession of narcotics, illegal storage of narcotics, and possession of marijuana.

Police said they released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on January 9. Because the youth who was arrested is under age 18, his/her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Highway Accident

State police report that motorist Paul Boucher, 79, of 2 Great Ring Road was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus sedan westward on Interstate 84 about 3,000 feet west of the Exit 10 interchange, when the Ford was struck from behind by a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by motorist John Rieck, 22, of Middletown, N.Y., at about 2:40 pm on December 23.

There were no injuries in the accident. Enforcement information was not available.

Exit 10

At about 2 pm on December 21, motorist Charles Maier, 21, of 201 Riverside Road was driving an unspecified motor vehicle on westbound Interstate 84’s wet Exit 10 on-ramp, when the vehicle went out of control and struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police report.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Sandy Hook Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred in Sandy Hook Center about 6 pm on December 27.

Police said that motorist Amy Reyen, 49, of Fleetwood Drive was driving a 2007 Toyota eastward near 100 Church Hill Road and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which her vehicle was struck from behind by an eastbound 2001 Toyota driven by Jonathan Brittin, 41, of Tomahawk Trail.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Brittin a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hawleyville Collision

Police report an accident involving a SUV and a sedan at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road, Hawleyville Road, and Saw Mill Road at about 5:11 pm on December 27.

The accident involved motorist Richard Reed, Jr, 47, of 15 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee, and motorist Jeriann Werden, 57, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Saturn Ion, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Reed a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Street

Motorist Gary Dolzall, 58, of 13 Ridge Road was driving a 2003 Hyundai Sonata sedan southward near 76 South Main Street and then stopped for traffic conditions at about 2:30 pm December 24, after which the Hyundai was struck from behind by southbound motorist Lynn Wright, 18, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Wright received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Four Charges

Police report that motorist Hikim Trueheart, 30, of Waterbury made a motor vehicle violation while traveling southward on South Main Street, near Elm Drive, about 8:20 pm December 29, so they stopped Trueheart to investigate.

Police charged Trueheart with failure to obey traffic signs/markings, driving with a suspended license, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

After arrest processing, police released Trueheart on $50,000 bail for a January 11 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Wheels Damaged

Police report that at about 11:51 pm on December 26, town police patrol Officer William W. Chapman III, 28, was driving a Ford Crown Victoria sedan police car northward near 71 South Main Street, when an unknown noncontact vehicle, which was possibly a Chevrolet or a Buick station wagon, turned left out of the driveway at 71 South Main Street and headed southward.

Chapman swerved to the right to avoid a collision with the other vehicle and the police car’s tires then struck some curbing, resulting in damage to the right wheels, police said. Chapman was not injured.

DUI Warrant

Police report that on the morning of December 29, they served an arrest warrant at 3 Boulder Creek Road in connection with an October incident.

Police said they arrested Marcus Schulz, 58, of 3 Boulder Creek Road on charges of driving under the influence and failure to maintain the proper lane. Police said the charges stem from a one-vehicle accident on Boulder Creek Road in which Schulz was the driver late on the afternoon of October 31.

Following processing, police released Schulz from custody on $2,500 bail for a January 13 court arraignment.

MV Charges

Police report that at about 12:40 am on December 31, they stopped motorist Sean Gill, 20, of Maple Drive near 62 Church Hill Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Gill with failure to drive to the right and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Gill on a written promise to appear on January 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Street

Police said that at about 1:06 am on December 31, they spotted motorist Andrea Possidento, 39, of Trumbull driving southward near 332 South Main Street in a vehicle that did not have its headlamps lit, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said that they then charged Possidento with failure to illuminate headlamps and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Possidento on a written promise to appear in court on January 11.

Moving Violations

While on patrol about 1:38 pm on December 29, police stopped motorist Robert Agee, 18, of New Milford near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and The Old Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Agee with failure to display a marker plate and with driving under suspension.

Agee was released on a written promise to appear on January 10 in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

 

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Robert Cosenza, 32, of East Haven went to the police station about 10:28 pm on January 2 and turned himself over to police who charged him with first-degree failure to appear in court stemming from original charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and carrying a pistol without a permit, police said.

Police said they held Cosenza on bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Vehicle Damaged

At about 1 pm on December 30, the driver of a black Honda Civic, which was parked near The Learning Experience at Plaza South at 274 South Main Street, discovered that a door on her vehicle had been struck and damaged by some unknown motorist while she had been away from the vehicle, police said. The impact caused more than $500 worth of damage.

Police said that based on evidence, the vehicle that struck the Honda and then left the scene is painted white. It is unclear whether the offending motorist realized that a collision had occurred, police added.

Vandalism Spree

At about 1 am on December 27, someone vandalized an unspecified number of curbside residential mailboxes on Miya Lane in Sandy Hook, police said. Miya Lane is a dead-street with 11 houses that extends from the intersection of Cherry Street and Pine Street. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the vandalism to contact Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Sugar Street

At about 6 am on December 21, motorist Peter Nagy, 52, of 21 Scudder Road was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westward near 55 Sugar Street, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle, resulting in a collision, police report. Nagy was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Highway Accident

While traveling westward on Interstate 84, about 150 feet west of the Exit 9 on-ramp, at about 5 pm on December 26, motorist Amy Dellipaoli, 35, of Rye Brook, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic, encountered traffic that had suddenly slowed, so she applied the brakes and swerved to the left in order to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of her, but the Honda struck some metal-beam guardrailing on the median, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Off-Ramp Crash

At about 6 pm on December 30, motorist Mark Forlenzo, 41, of 5 Glover Avenue, who was driving a 1995 Honda Civic, stopped at a stop sign at the end of an Exit 9 off-ramp for Interstate 84 and was then struck from behind by motorist Richard Reed, Jr, 47, of 15 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
