Newtown Choral Society will perform its 2016 winter concert, “Songs of Reflection and Celebration,” on Sunday, January 17, at 3:30 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

The concert, which was postponed from its original December date, will include songs in nine languages from six countries.

Songs from Africa will be sung in Swahili, Bemba and the language of the Xhosa people. From Israel there will be Hebrew and, from the heritage of Ashkenazi Jews, there will be Yiddish.

There will also be lullabies in Russian and Japanese, and Franza Biebl’s Ave Maria will be performed in Latin.

Because the concert was delayed, there will still be time to celebrate the holidays with “Calypso Carol,” “Carol from an Irish Cabin” and “Ding Dong, Merrily on High.”

Admission will be $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students. For more information, e-mail lel-choir2@se-ltd.com or find Newtown Choral Society on Facebook.

Originally scheduled for December 13, the winter concert of Newtown Choral Society will instead be performed on January 17 at Newtown Meeting House.
