Scott McLean scored all three of Newtown High School’s goals, for his second hat-trick of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the Newtown hockey team fell 4-3 to host New Milford, at Canterbury School, on January 6.

Newtown goaltender Nicholas Chaloux made 37 shots, as the Nighthawks fell to 4-2 overall this winter; the Green Wave improved to 2-2.

McLean’s first goal, a shorthanded tally assisted by Domenic Cartelli, tied the score at a goal apiece, in the second period. McLean scored an unassisted net-finder later in the middle stanza to give the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead. His third goal, unassisted, broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period, but the Green Wave battled back for the win. The Nighthawks were outshot 41-17 in the game.

The Hawks will have consecutive home games as the Lyman Hall-Haddam Killingworth-Coginchaug team visits Danbury Ice Arena, on Saturday, January 9, for a 2:10 pm faceoff, and New Fairfield-Immaculate comes to Danbury Ice Arena on Wednesday, January 13, for a 5:30 pm start.

Scott McLean winds up to take a shot toward the goal during action at Danbury Ice Arena earlier this season. McLean netted his second hat-trick of the campaign in Newtown's 4-3 road loss to New Milford, on January 6.
