Thomas Lawrence Capozziello passed away unexpectedly January 5.

Born January 2, 1993 in Norwalk, Conn., Thomas spent the majority of his life in Newtown, graduating from Newtown High School, class of 2011. He furthered his education at Naugatuck Valley Community College, graduating in June of 2020 with an associate’s degree in hospitality management and a certificate in dietary supervision.

Thomas worked for the Holiday Inn and most recently the Hilton Inn located in Danbury. Tom was dedicated to his profession and enjoyed serving the community. Thomas was newly promoted to operations manager, which he was very much looking forward to.

Thomas was a free spirit; his sense of independence and adventure led him across the country, where he made countless memories with like-minded friends. His love of skateboarding and dance music was unmatched. Tom’s worries faded away once his feet touched his skateboard or he felt the kick of the bass on the dance floor.

In 2007, Thomas and his mom, Lori, started “Donate to Skate” to jump-start a Newtown skate park. With many fundraisers and local events, they raised over $100,000. In 2011, their dreams came to fruition and the Newtown Skate Park became a reality. If the sun was shining, you could find Tom there. A powerful example, Tom counseled summer camp, teaching the young skaters skills, confidence, and perseverance not only in skating but in their life’s journey.

Thomas leaves behind his mother, Lori Capozziello; his father, Chris Capozziello; and his beloved brother, Patrick Capozziello. He was loved by many aunts, uncles, and cousins near and far.

In lieu of flowers or donations, hug your children.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 1 to 4 pm in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed.

Chris- please know that Ed and I are thinking of you during this terrible time. Tom was a sweet, chill kid who like many of Newtown kids will always have a place in our hearts. Sometimes a child is too special for this world and is taken Home earlier. May God bless you and your family.
With prayers, Ed and Karen White

To Tom’s family and loved ones- please know I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember Tom as a student in my math class at NHS from long ago. Though quiet, and may be a little shy, his kindness and good heart always shined through. Rest in love and peace, Tom.
