Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Jared Steiner, 22, of Milford, operating a 2003 Chevrolet S10, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 5:42 am December 19. Steiner lost control on a slight curve in the roadway, striking a curb and then a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Steiner was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Julia Forlenzo, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Honda Pilot, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road, approaching the intersection with the I84 ramp, at 2:55 pm December 21. Elizabeth Anesi, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2011 BMW 328xi, was also traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road in slow stop and go traffic, ahead of Forlenzo. The front end of Forlenzo’s vehicle struck the rear end of Anesi’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Forlenzo was issued a written warning for following too close.

U-Turn Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report that Marilyn Heilweil, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling east on Wasserman Way at 12:05 pm December 22. Luke Wellman, 21, of Newtown, operating a 2004 Buick LeSabre, was traveling west on Wasserman Way. Heilweil pulled onto the eastbound shoulder at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps driveway to begin a U-turn. As Heilweil’s vehicle crossed the centerline, it impacted the driver’s side of Wellman’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Wellman’s vehicle was towed.

Heilweil was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Struck Cables And Pole

Newtown Police report Johanna Abril-Rodas, 41, of Monroe, operating a 2018 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 5:22 am December 25. While negotiating a left curve, Abril-Rodas’ vehicle ran off the roadway right and struck a cable barrier system, and then continued forward and struck a utility pole, which snapped and fell, blocking South Main Street.

Abril-Rodas was checked by Newtown EMS for a possible minor injury but not transported. The vehicle was towed.

Abril-Rodas was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Rear Ended On Hawleyville

Newtown Police report Corey McChesney, 42, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road at 5:27 pm December 26. She was traveling behind a 2014 Jeep Wrangler operated by Kathleen Thompkins, 52, of Newtown. Thompkins slowed in traffic and the front right bumper of McChesney’s vehicle struck the back left bumper of Thompkins’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. McChesney’s vehicle was towed.

McChesney was issued a written warning for following too close.

Struck Dog

Newtown Police report Daniel Weinstein, 33, of Medford, Mass., operating a 2012 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:58 pm December 26. Weinstein’s vehicle struck a small Bichon Frise dog in the area, who was killed in the accident.

No other injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Incident At Flagpole

Newtown Police report Wayne Bryant, 69, of Redding, operating a 2019 Toyota Camry, was attempting to make a right turn from Church Hill Road onto Main Street at 5 pm December 27. Vito Daiuto, 63, of Shelton, operating a 2002 Ford F150, was traveling northbound on Main Street, passing the flagpole. Bryant thought Daiuto had a stop sign and entered Main Street, and struck Daiuto’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Unlicensed, Unregistered, Uninsured

Newtown Police report that Olwyn Polk, 53, of Danbury, was arrested at 7:43 pm December 30 on the charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of January 16 in Danbury Superior Court.

Keys Found

Newtown Police report that on December 31, a set of keys were found on the Fairfield Hills campus. Included in the keys were both car and house keys.

The individual who owns these keys and can describe them, can pick them up at Newtown Police Department by referring to case 2300019338.
