Four Violations

Police report they stopped motorist Patricia Mathison-Benvenuti, 42, of Monroe about 9:23 pm on December 23 near 12 Berkshire Road because they saw her driving a vehicle which had a defective headlamp.

Police said they charged her with driving a vehicle with a defective headlamp, failure to renew a driver’s license, driving a vehicle with a suspended registration, and violating vehicle emission standards.

Mathison-Benvenuti was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 8, police said.

Mazda v Tree

Motorist Hunter Nadriczny, 23, of 12 Antler Pine Road was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 sedan northward near 76 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 2:09 am on December 29, when the auto went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Nadriczny was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Glover Avenue Parking

Police said that at about 2 pm on December 30, a 2009 Ford E-450 ambulance driven by Laurie Veillette, 46, of 10 Johnson Drive, which is owned by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, attempted to park on Glover Avenue next to a parked, unoccupied 2007 Ford Explorer paramedic SUV owned by Danbury Ambulance Service, Inc.

However, in attempting the parking maneuver, the Ford E-450 struck the Ford Explorer, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they received a report about the accident on December 31.

Truck Off Road

Motorist Julio Arroyo-Colon, 35, of West Haven was driving a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck eastward on Sugar Street, near Boggs Hill Road, in slippery conditions at about 12:30 pm on December 31, when he lost control of the vehicle and it veered to the right, striking about 12 guardposts and an embankment along the right road shoulder, police said. The impact did heavy damage to the truck.

Arroyo-Colon was not injured. Police said he received a misdemeanor summons for driving under suspension and for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Two Vehicle Incident

Police report an unusual incident involving damage to two unoccupied vehicles which were parked in the parking lot at Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street.

Police said they received a call about 1:30 pm on December 31 reporting that a parked 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck began rolling and then crashed into a parked 2008 Subaru Impreza sedan. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

I-84 Evading

State police report that late on the night of December 31, motorist Mark Stanley, 38, of Southbury, who was driving a 2010 Ford F-350 pickup truck, lost control of the vehicle on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, after which he struck some guardrails and some guardcables, as well as a lightpost.

Stanley continued driving eastward and got off the highway at the Exit 13 off-ramp in Southbury, after which state police stopped him and arrested him on charges including evading responsibility.

Tablet Computer Found

Police report that on January 2, an Apple-brand iPad tablet-style computer was found in the area of Misty Vale Deli at 51 Berkshire Road The device was found inside a brown protective case and had a USB-style charger with it, police said.

Police said the owner should contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Saab Hits Curb

Motorist Matthew Lindell, 17, of 6 Daves Lane was driving a 2007 Saab 9/3 sedan eastward on a slippery Huntingtown Road near Meadowbrook Road at about 7:12 am on January 2, when the auto began to skid, police said.

Lindell was unable to stop and the Saab then struck some curbing, police said. Lindell was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

I-84 Vehicular Violation

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 11 about 7:30 am on January 3.

In that incident, motorist Margo Guy, 40, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road and struck a 2013 Mack truck driven by Marcus Shannon, 28, of Tobyhanna, Penn., state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Guy for a vehicular violation.

SUV vs SUV

At about 10:46 am on January 3, motorist Joanie Rodriguez, 41, of Derby, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, was unable to stop due to snowy conditions and then struck the rear end of a stopped westbound 2004 Mitsubishi SUV driven by Michele Midero, 35, of 69 Engleside Terrace, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Rodriguez for traveling too fast for conditions.

Berkshire Road Accident, Charges

Motorist Lamar Maysonet, 27, of New Haven was driving a 2004 Saturn automobile eastward on Berkshire Road, near Jordan Hill Road, about 11:46 am on January 3, when he lost control of the vehicle due to snowy conditions, crossed the road and then struck a utility pole along the westbound road shoulder, police said.

Police said they charged Maysonet with traveling too fast for conditions, misuse of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Maysonet was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 16, police said.

Tanker Truck Incident

Police said that at about 12:14 pm on January 3, Ramon Retamar, 40, of Bridgeport was driving a fuel tanker truck northward on snow-covered pavement near 72 South Main Street, when a driver in a northbound non-contact vehicle stopped suddenly in front of the tanker.

Retamar was unable to stop, so he turned the tanker truck to the right to avoid hitting the non-contact vehicle, but the truck struck some bushes and came to rest partially in a parking lot at 72 South Main Street, police said.

The tanker did not spill fuel, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Retamar for making a restricted turn.

Safety Barrels Hit

State police report that motorist Brian Olszewski, 19, of 4 Old Green Road was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Church Hill Road at about 1 pm on January 3, after which he turned right to enter the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84.

 In attempting the turn, Olszewski lost control of the vehicle on the snowy/slushy roadway and then collided with some protective crash barrels there, state police said. Olszewski was not injured. Olszewski received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Too Fast For Conditions, Evading

Police report that motorist Justin Hudder, 31, of Seymour was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck at about 3:50 pm on January 3 near 10 Elm Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle and it struck a utility pole.

Police said Hudder left the scene of the crash and attempted to drive home, but was located and charged with evading responsibility and with traveling too fast for conditions.

After processing the case, police released Hudder on $2,000 non-surety bail for a January 16 court appearance.

Evading, Other Charges

Police said they received a report at about 10:37 am on January 4 following a two-vehicle collision in which one of the drivers had left the scene of the crash.

The collision involved a 1987 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a 2002 Lexus RX-300 SUV, police said.

Police said they received a description of the evading pickup truck and located it in the area, after which they investigated and charged Chevrolet driver William A. Brusca, Jr, 46, of 27 Forest Drive with evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to have automotive insurance, and failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Police said they released Brusca on $750 bail for a January 16 court appearance.

Interstate Collision

State police said that at about 3:37 pm on January 4, motorist Shareen Brown, 64, of Holmes, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan westward on Interstate 84, west of the Exit 11 on-ramp, drifted on the roadway and collided with a 2004 International truck driven by Charles Van Hosen, 44, of Thorntown, Ind.

There were no injuries. State police said that Brown failed to drive in the established lane.

Warrant Arrest

State police report that at about 8:30 pm on January 4, they served an arrest warrant against Christopher Lewis, 28, of 98 Church Hill Road at his residence. The warrant carried a charge of violation of probation, state police said.

Lewis was held on $10,000 bail for a January 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, at which he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Lewis was being held this week at Bridgeport Correctional Center on $10,000 bail for a February 4 court appearance.

Wasserman Way Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 at about 10 pm on January 4.

In that incident, a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Michael Gannon, 36, of Fairfield struck a 2013 Subaru SUV driven by Janine Stiber, 42, of Middlebury, police report.

There were no injuries. Gannon was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Highway Crash

On eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 6:40 pm on January 5, Christopher Avery, 39, of Barnesville, Ga., who was driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck, attempted to change lanes but struck motorist Eliza Meeker, 43, of Paris, France, who was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion, state police said.

Meeker received a minor cut but refused medical attention, state police said. Avery received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, according to state police.

Too Fast For Conditions

Motorist Kayla Christeson, 23, of 81 Pootatuck Trail was driving a 1990 Ford Tempo sedan northward on South Main Street near Greenbriar Lane about 10 pm on January 5, when the auto skidded on the icy pavement, spun out of control and then struck some guardrails along the right road shoulder, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Christeson a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
