Gymnasts Compete In Pomperaug Invite

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team began the season in the Pomperaug Invitational, at Pomperaug High in Southbury, on January 9. The Nighthawks placed eighth with a team score of 119.25. Darien was first with 136.950, Daniel Hand of Madison was second with 136.400, and Fairfield Ludlowe came in third with 133.300.

Newtown’s Maddie Jannott was sixth on floor with a score of 8.8 and 12th overall with an all around score of 32.850. There were 37 all around competitors and 74 gymnastics in the invitational. Jannott also had an 8.5 on beam and an 8.25 on vault.

Ally Kenny was sixth on bars with a score of 8.1; she also scored an 8.5 on floor, and an 8.15 on vault. Cam Vazquez scored an 8.4 on floor and an 8.3 on vault. Sarah MacMullan scored an 7.95 on vault. Alana O’Donnell competed on vault and scored a 7.6.

Also contributing to the team score were Liz Marcinek on bars and beam, Laura Hornby on floor, Alex Ferris on beam, and Taylor Krikorian on vault and bars.
