NHS Basketball Time Change; Additional Weather Updates Possible

UPDATE: Newtown High's home swim meet versus New Milford has been rescheduled from today, January 12, to Thursday, January 14, at 4 pm, because of New Milford travel restrictions.

Due to anticipated snow, Newtown High School’s basketball games for this afternoon have been moved to earlier start times.

The girls will host Notre Dame-Fairfield and the boys will visit Notre Dame. Both varsity games will tip off at 5:15 pm, instead of the originally scheduled 7 pm start time. The junior varsity games will take place at 3:30 pm.

There is also an earlier start time for the Wednesday, January 13, home wrestling match against New Milford. Originally scheduled for 7 pm, the teams will square off beginning at 6 pm. This time change was announced at an earlier time, and is not weather related.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow for Newtown, mainly after 4 pm. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation is not expected to exceed half and inch.

Temperatures will reach as high as 36 degrees, but south winds of 10-13 mph will create a wind chill value between 25 and 30, according to the weather service.

Snow showers will continue, mainly before midnight, also according to NWS. The overnight will be cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 22 degrees. West winds of 9-15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph, will make it feel more like 10-15 degrees, however.

Wednesday has oly a chance of flurries before noon, under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will reach only a high of 28 degrees, but will continue to feel like 10-15. West winds of 13-16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph, are predicted.
