FAITH Food Pantry will be closed Tuesday, January 21, due to an unsafe amount of ice near its entrance.

The announcement was made via the nonecumenical pantry's Facebook page Tuesday morning.

Volunteers do expect to be back in the building for the next scheduled session, Thursday, January 24, from 6 to 7:30 pm.

Located on the campus of St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, FAITH (Food Assistance Immediate Temporary Help) is an all-volunteer effort that distributes food on an emergency basis to any Newtown resident, without questions or judgment, from its building at 46 Church Hill Road. Residents are often able to also pick up personal hygiene, cleaning, and pet supplies from the organization.

Residents can visit once a month to receive one week's work of food.

Volunteers are usually at the pantry Tuesday mornings from 9:30 until 11:30, and Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30, year round.

Donations to the pantry are also accepted during those hours. While nonperishables and financial donations are always welcomed, the pantry's current wish list includes cat food (canned and dry), coffee, cookies, corned beef hash, dog food (canned), ketchup, laundry detergent, liquid dishwashing soap, and shampoo.

Donation bins for the food pantry are also located at most of Newtown's houses of worship. The front office of The Newtown Bee, at 5 Church Hill Road, also has a donation box immediately inside its entrance. Residents are invited to leave items at those locations at their convenience. Volunteers transport all donations to FAITH on a weekly basis.

For additional information contact FAITH Food Pantry President Lee Paulsen, 203-426-5604.
