TRAVELBoys 8th

Newtown 41, Bethel 42 – After jumping out to an early 25-15 lead, the injury-depleted Newtown squad lost the lead late in the fourth quarter. Newtown, who dressed only seven players, put up a balanced scoring attack but were unable to close out the well-rested Bethel squad. Trey Trudell and David Lucia came up big on the boards and Justin Brophy knocked down a couple of three pointers in the loss.

Newtown 47, Southbury 31 – Newtown set the tone early with 13 unanswered points to start the contest. Stifling defense on the perimeter by Josh Barrett, Trey Trudell, and Brendan DeAngelis kept Southbury off balance as Newtown won going away. David Lucia lead all scorers, converting several offensive rebounds into easy baskets. Johnnie Kerins’ aggressive drives to the hoop complimented timely jumpers by Barrett as Newtown’s scoring attack proved too much for Southbury.

Boys 6th

Newtown 35, Danbury “A” 32 – Matt Mossbarger had 10 points while Conner Gallagher and Bubba Le Blanc chipped in 7 and 6 points, respectively, to lead Newtown to a win over Danbury. The team continues to show improvement as demonstrated by the fact Newtown had lost to Danbury’s “A” squad in their previous three meetings this season.

Bridgeport 65, Newtown 27 – Bubba Le Blanc had 8 points and Mike Davis chipped in 7 in the loss. Nick Cagganello and Logan Puleri each had 4 points.

Greenwich “A” 41, Newtown 36 – Mike Davis had 9 points and Matt Hoyt chipped in 7 to lead Newtown’s scoring attack. Jonah Muniz and Matt White were strong on the board while Jim Parker had several nice assists.

Greenwich “A” 46, Newtown 35 – Matt Mossbarger led Newtown in scoring with 7 points in a league loss to Greenwich. Jim Parker had 3 assists and Mike Davis pulled down 8 rebounds while Logan Puleri had 2 steals.

Wilton 49, Newtown 43 – Mike Davis had 7 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Newtown. Matt Mossbarger had 4 assists and 4 steals while Jonah Muniz and Matt White each pulled down 5 rebounds.

 

Girls 7th

Newtown Attack 38, Danbury 36 – The Newtown Attack remained unbeaten in league play with an exhilarating game against rival Danbury. Bridget Power drained a three pointer as time expired with two beautiful assists from Clare Miles and Maddy Good to notch the victory. Catie Yakush and Brittany Tolla were on fire with 4 assists each. Kristy Papaj and Suzie Gissen controlled the defensive boards combining for 13 rebounds.

Girls 6th

Newtown 40, Easton 4 – The Bounce shot and passed very well on Saturday. Danielle Shine had her first double-double of the season, with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kristie VosWinkel stole 7 and Jessi Principi was close behind with 6. Amanda Cirella scored 6 points, as did Amanda Crowell. Jenny Indelicato helped out with 2 assists and 1 basket.

 New Fairfield 38, Newtown 27 – After trading the lead for most of the game, New Fairfield finally pulled ahead in the final quarter. Mary Jo Rossi dominated with 13 points. Kristie VosWinkel grabbed 11 rebounds and Danielle Shine had 10. Jessi Principi lead with 4 steals. Kerry Scallon contributed 4 points. Hope McMorran and Tess Murray each had 2 rebounds and a steal.

Boys 5th

Newtown 36, Westport PAL 32 – In a hard-fought game the locals prevailed with a close win. Lacking their normal defensive intensity and not able to create easy shots out of their running game, Newtown struggled to a one-point halftime lead and fell behind early in the third quarter. However, Newtown gained momentum in the second half behind Jeremy Doski and Colton Smith. The duo spearheaded the defense in the third quarter with their outstanding ball pressure and allowed Newtown to stretch a close game to a 9 point lead with 3 minutes remaining. Newtown was lead by the 10 points of Connor Roche and 6 each from Smith and Kevin Conte.

Newtown 57, Westport YMCA 27 – Newtown took a 31-18 lead at the half and stretched it out early in the second half for the final margin. Teamwork was the key to the win, as all the boys demonstrated an unselfish attitude to make the next pass and get all their teammates involved. Four players reached double figures, led by Troy Frangione with 11 and Colton Smith, Julian Dunn, and Kevin Conte chipping in with 10 apiece. Michael Parker and Jeremy Doski were outstanding on the defensive end, creating turnovers that led to easy baskets by their teammates.

Newtown 44, Weston 15 – Newtown jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they stretched their season record to 18-1. Each player lit up the scoring column, led by Logan Walsh with 8. Kevin Conte, Michael Cirone, and Julian Dunn grabbed a majority of the rebounds that led to easy fast break points. Michael Parker and Jacob Burden did a nice job on the defensive end, applying consistent ball pressure that forced turnovers and bad shots.

 

Senior Girls

Purple People Eaters 32, Red Hot Chili Peppers 10 – Katie Pessin popped in 11 points for the Purple People Eaters, while Kaley Kruger and Betsy Vendell led the team defensively. Geni Santayane dropped in 4 points for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, while Rachael Marlin and Kathleen Foy led a good defensive effort.

Yellow Thunderbolts 39, Orange Zingers 27 – Linda Magliocco sank 10 points and Sam Lockhart was the second leading scorer with 7 points. Hannah Tenenbaum, Shannon Barra and Karie Schmidt led the Yellow Thunderbolts defensively. Natalie Villa popped in 10 points. The entire team played a great game and Sara Bengo and Katie Jackman led the team defensively.

Junior Boys (7th & 8th)

Wildcats 46, Regulators 42 – Mario Pisaghelli popped in 20 points and Matthew Rahtelli contributed another 16 points for the Wildcats. Richard Greenwood had 5 steals and Chris Otero grabbed 8 rebounds. Regulators’ high scorer was Dean Demers with 14 points. Leading the team defensively was Tyler Gidney with 5 steals and Shaun Dardine with 10 rebounds.

Huskies 50, Nuggets 37 – Dom Fedak was high scorer with 18 points and Reid Schmidt popped in 16 points. John Corsi and Andre Ruscoe played hard for the Huskies. Mike Lengel and Mike Lobasco combined for 22 points for the Nuggets. Scott Schmidt had 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Max Lopez played well.

Sonics 52, Statesmen 40 – Four players were in the double digits with points popped in. Joe Davis, Jack Kearney, and Kevin Dennis played well defensively for the Sonics. Chris Devaney led the way with 11 points and was hot on the foul line. Chris Erikson had 5 steals and had an explosive defensive game. Cole Baldino grabbed 4 rebounds for the Statesmen.

Tarheels 47, Nighthawks 42 – Great comeback win for the Tarheels. Jake Feinstein dropped in 10 points, while Matt Spencer (4 assists), Don Morrisey (3 steals), and Pat Riccardi (5 rebounds) played well on the floor. Pat Sullivan popped in 10 points, Colin Morris had 9 points, and McCleary had 6 with two 3-point shots. Great defense for the Nighthawks by John Hull, Kalob Rowe, Ryan Palmer, and Mike Scharfenberg.

Avalanche 34, Pride 23 – Leading scorer for Avalanche was Sean Burson with 16 points and Michael Serf contributed 8 points. Leading defensively were Ben Stoller with 4 assists and 5 steals and Jimmy Russo with 11 rebounds. Wyatt DePuy dropped in 8 points and Colin Cooper popped in 6. Working hard defensively was John Meyer with 3 assists, Robbie Hughes with 2 steals and Kyler Harmeling with 6 rebounds.

Gunners 50, Bears 31 – Christian Sayegh, 12 points, and Ryan Dunnigan, 11 points, led the team offensively. Andrew Martinez had key buckets. Sayegh grabbed 14 rebounds Andrew Volkers grabbed some big rebounds. Eric Fiore had 5 assists and Charlie Helgren had 5 steals for the Gunners. Alex Roche was the leading scorer for the Bears. Leading the team defensively were Kyle Harrington (4 assists), Alex Roche (6 steals), and Justin Cherry (4 rebounds).

Maulers 64 vs Pride – J. Devillis dropped in 17 points of the 64 winning points. The Maulers played well defensively with 8 steals by Christian Mather, 5 assists from Kory Kling, and 7 rebounds by P.J. Hickey. Colin Cooper of Pride sank 16 points and J.P. Kitzmiller dropped in 11 points and 3 steals. Charles Loomis had 4 steals, Chad Magoulas grabbed 8 and 4 assists were from John Meyer.

Nets 50, Vipers 45 – Austin Bonadio led the offense with 17 points, Phil Reynolds contributed 10 points and 10 assists, and solid support in offense from Austin Ryder with 4 points and Mason West with 6 points. Leading defensively were Nick Madden with 4 blocks, and 7 rebounds by Pat Thornberg for the Nets. Richard Sandler with 16 points and Jeff Grasso with 14 points led the team offensively. Rebound leader James Pearson and the rest of the Vipers played a great defensive game.

Junior girls

Mercury 36, Suns 25 – Kristen Grabowski and Georgia Cartois each scored 7 points. Shradha Sahani and Jane Sclafani lead the defense for Mercury. Jessica Haitz dropped in 7 points and Tressa Scott popped in 6. Emily Nacewicz and Courtney Tenney led the defense for the Suns.

Rebels 21, Huskies 9 – Kaitlyn VosWinkel sank 8 points. Great defense by Sara Hasselberg (4 assists), Christina Capporale (5 steals), and Kiersten Lynch (7 rebounds). The Huskies Kristiann Engler led the offense with 3 points. Leading the defense were Engler and Jill Moller. The Huskies just could not find the range.

Da Bears 40, Liberty 16 – Julia Trudell drove in 20 points and Katie Fossum dropped in 6 points. Meredith Bridges led with 7 steals and Kyra Middeleer grabbed 6 rebounds for Da Bears. Julie La Perch popped in 6 points and Kelly O’Sullivan contributed 5 points. Erin Bell played tough defense. Kelly O’Sullivan hustled on offense for Liberty.

Knicks 31, Hawks 23 – Kelly Gaston led the Knicks with 21 points. Sarah Stefko, Carlie Gechman, and Kelly Gaston led the team defensively. Lydia Beite with 14 points and Keri Chernoff with 4 points led the Hawks in scoring while Olivia Phenix played a great game on the boards. Bianca Soland played a great defensive game.

Intermediate Boys (6th)

Huskies 26, Nighthawks 25 – In a closely fought battle that came down to the wire, the Huskies edged out the Nighthawks 26-25. After trailing 20-14 at the end of the third, the Huskies clamped down on defense to pull out the victory. Tommy Gleason led the Huskies with 10 points, while Angel Santos and Dann Winn contributed with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Patrick Afriyie was tenacious on defense. Drew Tarantino led the Nighthawks with 10 points, with Chris Carroll leading in assists. Nate Steinebrey was the defensive standout for the Nighthawks, and Jimmy Leidlein led the Nighthawks in rebounding.

Nighthawks 43, Mavericks 26 – Drew Tarantino led a balanced offensive attack, canning 9 points, while Matt Rosa, Mike Dinielli, Nate Steinebrey, and Brenton Scott all chipped in 6 points apiece. Dan Spillane led the Nighthawks in rebounds, while Brenton Scott was the defensive standout. Wesley Morlock and Nick Strokis led the Mavericks with 8 points each; Joe Calbo contributed with 6 assists. Marc Hernandez helped on the boards with 8 rebounds, while Matt Baldino led the defense with 6 steals.

Free Agents 50, Runnin’ Rebels 35 – Chase Wurtz with 15 points, Justin Adsitt with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Connor Noonan with 10 points, 8 in the fourth quarter, helped power the Free Agents past the Runnin’ Rebels. Ryan Rosenberger was the defensive standout for the Agents with 5 steals. Garrison Buzzanca and Grant Ricketts led the way for the Rebels with 10 points each. The Rebels kept it close, trailing by only one point (30-29) going into the fourth quarter with a great all around team effort, led defensively by Austin Raftery (10 steals) and Dominic Scarangella (10 rebounds). Grant Larnerd had a great floor game.

The Beast 33, Suns 22 – Outstanding game for Kalra with 16 points, Schwartz with 8 assists and 6 steals. Sock & Brindley were very tough on defense. Matt Janco and Jim Kelly combined for 18 points for the Suns. Leading the team defensively were Greg LaDestro and Tom Floros.

Hawks 39, Celtics 31 – Virgil Procaccini led the Hawks with 14 points. Leading the defense were Matt Lindell with 4 assists, Nick Norberg with 13 rebounds, and Andrew Derrickson. Pat Rowley played an exceptional game. Brendan Peterson led the Celtics offensively with 8 points. Ben Payne grabbed 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Intermediate Boys (5th)

Twisters 28, Bulldogs 23 – David Matthews and Jaret Develis combined for 16 points. Leading the Twisters defensively were Sawyer Conrad with 6 assists, Mark Dowling with 5 steals, and Kevin Ovendorf with 7 rebounds. The Bulldogs’ Max Rucinski popped in 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Kyle McGrath and Adam Israel played a great game on the boards.

Rockets 30, Scorpions 24 – Wiley Zahansky dropped in 9 points and Zachary Weiland added 5. Leading the team defensively were Kustav Mitra with 5 steals and Eric Cascone grabbing 8 rebounds. Strong team effort from the Rockets. Leading the Scorpions was Trevor Lopez with 10 points. Strong defensive efforts from Steven Tromontazzi, Colton Moroney, and Curtis Giles. Impressive rally in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points but coming up just short.

Heat 28, Sonic Pumpkins 25 – Colin Reilly chipped in 8 points for the Heat. Leading the team defensively were Kaj Djonne with 4 assists, Charlie Hueg with 4 steals, and Albert Dean with 7 rebounds. Joey Santella pumped in 11 points for the Sonic Pumpkins. Chris Hartley and Austin Huffman were aggressive defensively.

Knicks 30, Celtics 22 – Scott Gregson and Sean McCafferty combined for 10 points to lead the offense while Aiden Peterschek grabbed 10 rebounds, and Nate Dowd and Tyler Lennox directed the defense. Will Swain led the Celtics “O” with 14 points, while Connor Ryan led the tight “D.” Great hustle by Tommy Rohr and Andrew King.

Knicks 38, Wildcats 31 – Bryce Decker with 16 points and Harry DuPuy led the offense. Keaton McCleary and Noah Velush Rogers led the Knicks defense. Patrick Berger and Luke Rustici combined for 25 points. Robby Schreiber played a strong game at both sides along with Baxter Hankin. Peter Manfredonia grabbed 11 rebounds and Andy DeWolfe, 3 steals.

Intermediate Girls (5th & 6th)

Bluefish 29 vs Bulldogs – Leading the Bluefish offensively were Aimee Alexander with 7 points and Emily Davis with 6 points. Defensive leaders were McKenzie Hammond, Brittany Gonzalez, and Shana Evanko. The Bulldogs Emily Grimes drove in 5 points. Great hand work by Samantha Chanko and Eliza Eggleston. Jessica Amante grabbed 8 rebounds

Dragons 26, Nighthawks 8 – Cassie Ekstrom dropped in 10 points and Bethany Dubois popped in 8 points. Sarah Greenwood led the Dragons defensively. Valentina Pena dropped in 6 points for the Nighthawks, while Shaina Stump, Allie Brazo led the team defensively. Great game by all playing.

Dragons 32, The Court Jesters 19 – Cassie Ekstrom dropped in 24 points for the Dragons. Liz Townsend, Jen Edwards, and Emily Pieretti led the team defensively. Carley Ferris of The Court Jesters dropped in 7 points, with 5 assists from Hannah Booth. Megan Brophy was the defensive leader.

Wolves 25, Ghostbusters 24 – Siena Cicarelli dropped in 14 points and strong offense by Sierra Mather. Leading the defense was Julia Frattaroli with 9 rebounds, Jenna Hansen with 2 steals, and Lilly Fulmer. The Ghostbusters Anna Northrop dropped in 11 points. Aileen Decker, Hayley Dunn, and Amanda Martinez lead the team defensively.

Boys Bantam

Big Red Machine 12, Huskies 11 – The BRM was led offensively by Tim Vanderhave and Liam Palilla, while defensively they were led by Zachary Laros and Kevin Finnegan. The Huskies were led offensively by Jamie Cochrane and Matt Steward, while defensively they were led by Bryce Mather and Lucas Ladestro.

Warriors 20, Orangemen 8 – The Warriors were led offensively by Matt Gerics and Joey Duero, while defensively they were led by Adam Weber and Matt Campbell. The Orangemen were led offensively by Jake Oliger and Nick Samuelson, while defensively they were led by Adam Robertson and Tyler Dullinger.

Blue Devils 25, Celtics 11 – The Blue Devils were led offensively by Matt Maturo and Peter Winnans, while defensively they were led by Devin Peterson and Marcus Wessel. The Celtics were led offensively by Thomas Gavel and Tony Leonardi, while defensively they were led by Patrick Briscoe and Sam Czel.

Eagles 29, Black Knights 22 – The Eagles were led offensively by Michael Doyle and Tommy Elliot, while defensively they were led by Shawn McCarthy and Jeremy Salaris. The Black Knights were led offensively by Gordon Walsh and Jack Procaccini, while defensively they were led by Jake Lapp and James Barry.

Nighthawks 23, Lightening 20 – The Nighthawks were led offensively by Ethan Carpenter and Matt Davis, while defensively they were led by Riley Young and Chris Buckley. The Lightening were led offensively by James Frazetta and Jackson Cryder, while defensively they were led by Jared Pearson and Nick Genovese.

Boys Midgets

Celtics vs Purple People Eaters – Connor DiNallo, Bobby Haskins, and Noah LaFerriere led the Celtics offensively, while Jack Moulder, Austin Kasbarian, and Jack Murray led the team defensively. Matt Gerbo, Robert Murray, and Jack Palermo played well offensively for the Purple People Eaters, while defensively Ethan Aug, Ian Klepacki, and Peter Clifford had a good game.

Panthers vs White Knights – Justin Dunn, RH Clark, and River Low drove it in offensively, while Ryan Kost, Ryan Mailloux, and Jason Taweh played well defensively for the Panthers. Leading the White Knights offensively were Andrew Janco, Owen McInerney, and Austin Engler, and defensively were Michael Liberante, Ryan Esconda, and Aidan Ford.

Hawks vs Wildcats – Dylan Sock, Zach Demeglio, and Tommy Kitzmiller lit up the offense and Mitchell Long, Doug Carriero, and Scotty Bauer carried the defense for the Hawks. Spencer Burden, Christian Adam, and Jake Holman led the Wildcats offensively, while Rhett Saunders, Sean Wallace, and Noah Schmidt led the team defensively.

Lakers vs Fireballs – Colin McCafferty and Oliver Wood stepped it up offensively for the Lakers, and great defensive plays by Colin Villamana, Graham Dowd, and Tiernan Keane. Fireballs’ AJ Salaris, Austin Smith, and William Stenz lit up the offense, while Brian Kerins, Matthew Sadowski, and Ben Terry led the team defensively.

Goofy Goobers vs Yellow Sabers – Quinn Hart, Mitchell Savoca, and Henry Primavera led the Goofy Goobers offensively, while Kyle Roche Jacob Muller, and Alex Street led the team defensively. Owen Walsh, Paul Whitaker, and Andrew DeLuca lit up the Yellow Sabers offensively, while David Grossman, David Daria, and William Gottschalck played well defensively.

Green Torpedoes vs Red Devils – Peter Fagerholm, Jack Bittman, and Thomas Fitzgerald took it in offensively and Thomas Addessi, Wesley Scriven, and Jordan Klein got it done defensively for the Green Torpedoes. John Finnegan, James Hobar, and Will LeMay played a good game offensively, while defensively Charles Roman, Harry Eppers, and Bradley Capeci played a good game for the Red Devils.

Blue Devils vs Sharks – Playing a good game offensively were Gavin Stubbs, Jacob Steinebrey, and Jake Pirone. Matt Frazzetta, Connery Mayer, and Connor Legault anchored the defense for the Blue Devils. Evan Eggleston, Thomas Cotton, and Tyler LaCroce led the Sharks offensively and great defensive plays by Tyler Trede, Zachary Anderson, and Marc Carlson.

Orange Flames vs Green Goo – Christopher Mok, Andrew Buzzi, and Liam Deakin led the team offensively and Scott Preszler, Adam Wolff, and Braeden Mathieson highlighted the defense for the Orange Flames. Dylan Cortese, Riley Burns, and Shane Maksel powered the offense and Thomas Coppinger and Daniel Badiola led the Green Goos defensively.

                                             

Girls Midgets

Purple Parrots vs Blue Devils – Lucy Helgren, Maddie Manfredonia played well offensively and Rebecca Gavel and Claire Swanson led the Purple Parrots defensively. Blue Devils’ Isabel Pryor and Olivia Bellagamba led the team offensively, while Cory Mangold and Allie Indelicato played well defensively.

Bumblebees vs Wildcats – Jessica Maturo, Laura Villamana, and Sarah Lindell led the team offensively, while Elizabeth Weisberger led the Bumblebees defensively. The Wildcats’ Casey Muckell, Shannon Cheh, and Vanessa Tucker led the Wildcats offensively.

Red Devils vs Huskies – Erin Tressler and Olivia Shaw played well offensively, while Stephanie Edwards played well defensively for the Red Devils. The Huskies Julia Doyle, Cassidy Datin, and Clair Beiter led the team offensively, and Lindsy Tienken led the team defensively.

Orange Crush vs Tigers – Sydney Flint and Jackie Gouveia played well offensively, and Madeline Meier and Tegan Doherty led the Orange Crush defensively. Hailey Conrad and Emily Neave led the Tigers offensively, while Alexis Barra and Ally LaDestro led the team defensively.
