Your Business: Warehouse Thrift

Location: 117 Mt Pleasant Road (adjacent to Dance Etc.)

Owners/Manager: John Ravo

How long have you been in business? Ravo, along with several helpers, started the business at a location in Danbury two years ago, selling items collected through auction buyouts of abandoned storage units, which he was also offering through e-Bay. He acquired the space in Newtown and began relocating in September of 2019. “We were looking at a vacant store on South Main Street,” Ravo said, “but the landlord from our Danbury location suggested another Newtown site he owned, which is where we ended up.”

What is the service your business offers? In addition to his original business, Ravo now arranges house cleanouts and occasionally acquires the remaining items at large local tag and garage sales. “I love old and antique items,” Ravo told The Newtown Bee. “We’ve got everything from costume jewelry, lamps, chandeliers, and cabinets to furniture, small working appliances, antique typewriters, clothing...” — even a coffee grinder that Ravo learned was made in the late 1700s.

What would you most like Bee readers to know about your business? To an extent, merchandise is offered in a “name your price” format, and the shop is holding a $10 Fill-A-Bag sale on most items, or $1 specials on single items comprising about 80 percent of the stock in order to make room for new merchandise Ravo will expects to collect as winter weather subsides in the coming weeks.
