Tell The Council What You Think

To the Editor:

On February 7, the Legislative Council, at its meeting at the Booth Memorial Library at 7:30 pm, is expected to discuss citizen concerns about the proposed new town hall at Fairfield Hills and the lack of long-term planning for that property and our town in general.

Legislative Council member Keith Jacobs has asked that the issue of a town hall at Fairfield Hills be placed on the agenda for this meeting in response to the complaints he is hearing from citizens.

We need a turnout in the hundreds to ensure our voices are heard on this issue. If we all turn out, then we have the opportunity to receive the assistance of our Legislative Council to stop the new town hall until we are all convinced there is an adequate, long-range plan in place for Fairfield Hills that is a true reflection of the will of the people in our community today, and that is in the public interest.

If you believe our $21 million bond issue for Fairfield Hills should result in more than a few knocked-down buildings, a town hall that few want, some trails, and a baseball field without lights, then join us on February 7 at the Legislative Council meeting at the library at 7:30 pm!

If you have long complained to your neighbors and friends about why the town is focused on building a new town hall, when our schools are in desperate need of repairs and we need more recreational and senior facilities, now is the time to let your feelings known at the Legislative Council meeting on February 7 at the library at 7:30 pm.

On February 7, we all need to show up, speak up and let our elected officials know that we do not want a town hall at Fairfield Hills until these other, more important community needs are addressed.

Otherwise, we’ll have no one but ourselves to blame as we drive along Wasserman Way looking at our shiny new town hall while our kids continue to attend schools in disrepair and our community struggles with inadequate recreational and senior facilities.

The Legislative Council meeting is at the Booth Library at 7:30 pm on February 7 — be there, be heard!

Sincerely,

Gary Davis
