Elementary Grapplers Win More Western Connecticut Bragging Rights

The Newtown Youth Wrestling Association's elementary team dominated for its second consecutive Western Connecticut Championships, and third win in the past four years, at the Danbury Police Activities League building this past weekend.

The team, comprising athletes in pre-K through fifth grade, scored 41 of a possible 48 points, with New Milford and Danbury scoring 35 and 33 respectively, to place second and third. Newtown wrestlers took home first-place honors in 14 of the 32 brackets.

First place: Camila Collesian, Antonio Arguello, Steven Accomando, Brighton Karvoski, Shaun Daoust, Jake Maddox, Erik Roggenbauer, Brendon McAnaspie, Marc Maurath, Marco D'Amico, Daniel Accomando, Luca Manfredi, Fisher Stites, and Jack Wendel.

Second place: Dante Ames, Grayson Renkert, Jacob Petrini, Tommy Milligan, and Sam Stoltz.

Third place: Jack Cotter, Max Malitsky, Kieran Frieary, and Ben Plaue.

Other towns and cities represented in the championships are Bethel, Brookfield, Easton, Fairfield, New Fairfield, Redding, Ridgefield, Southbury, Stamford, and Trumbull.
