1950 to 2023

William “Bill” White passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, with his family at his side, after a short battle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois, and beautiful and adoring children, Anna and Emily; brother, James (Roberta) of Chincoteague, Va.; sister, Elizabeth (Stephen) Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Brian (Susan) of Newtown, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth White of Massapequa, N.Y., and Wilton, Conn.

Bill graduated from Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in Queens, N.Y., and received his degree in accounting from Mount St Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Md. He later became a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York.

Bill’s career started with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell, & Company. His career moved forward with him obtaining positions of greater responsibility in the accounting field and working for WR Grace, Taco Bell, Times Mirror Cable, Merle Norman, Automated Security Holdings (ASH), The Franklin Mint, and finally at Qualcomm. In 1991, while Bill was president and COO for Automated Security Holdings United States operations, he was elected a member of the Young President’s Organization, Inc. He later was promoted at ASH to CEO and was a main board member in London.

Bill met his wife, Lois, while working in finance at Taco Bell. After Bill left the company, ten years would pass before Bill and Lois married in 1993. After several coast to coast moves, Bill and Lois settled in Carlsbad, California, and adopted their twins, Anna and Emily, from China in 2000. While working at Qualcomm, Bill was transferred to China and the family spent four and a half years living in Beijing, returning to Carlsbad in the summer of 2006.

Bill was an avid surfer growing up and loved being on the water in his 14’ outboard Whaler boat. His love of the ocean and surfing led him to design three surfboards. Bill would surf on Long Island at Gilgo Beach, TOBAY Beach, and Long Beach in any season of the year. He played varsity tennis in high school and continued to play until he had problems with his back. Bill also had an affinity for automobiles. His first car was a green 1964 MGB. Eventually, he graduated to even bigger and better vehicles over the years, most of them white, as this was his vehicle color of choice.

Bill was a prolific reader, mainly non-fiction. He often would pass bags full of books to friends after reading them. He also was a phenomenal chef. His greatest joy was cooking for his family and having his friends over for small dinner parties. His daughters have followed in his footsteps; their talents in the kitchen can compete with some of the best chefs today. Bill also loved to walk, and he was most proud of the fact that he completed a marathon in Los Angeles in 1992 race walking.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 13, 2023, at Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, California. A few friends will be giving eulogies at 1 pm, followed by Mass at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s honor to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity of your choice.
