Albert Hamilton Zellers

A Brilliant Smile And Artistic Genius

Albert Hamilton Zellers died peacefully in his home, “Fairhill,” in Newtown, January 24. He was born February 2, 1920, in Passaic, N.J., to Albert and Sarah Hovell Zellers.

Mr Zellers attended and was a strong supporter of Oberlin College and Syracuse University, from which he graduated.

He served in the Army, Air Corps Division, in India and Burma.

His love and acumen of design was reflected in his many years as the design director for Greeff, Inc of New York City. This passion could be seen in his gardens, his art, his needlepoint, and particularly, the designs of their homes, “Three Seasons” on Fire Island and “Fairhill.”

He brought symbolism and a keen eye to everything in his life, with an embracing and unforgettable smile. He always had endearing words for each and every one he knew. His travels, a sampling of which included Tokyo, London, Versailles, Vienna, Rome, Florence, Paris, China and Indonesia, contributed to his vision.

He will be remembered by his lifelong friends, Louis and Linda Nykaza Albanese and sons of Fairfield; his loyal caregivers George and Teresa Appianing; a sister Ruth Pike; several nephews and nieces; the Edwards families of Florida and Georgia; and the Doherty family of Maryland. He was predeceased by his loving life partner of 65 years, Richard Clair DeBrown.

A memorial celebration of his life will take place at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Saturday, February 4, from 1 to 3 pm.

“To live in our hearts is not to die.”
