Police Await Crime Lab Results in Burglary/Assault Probe

By Andrew Gorosko

Police said this week they are awaiting laboratory results of forensic tests to complete their investigation into a brutal burglary/assault that occurred at a Georges Hill Road residence in January.

Police are “wrapping up a few loose ends” in their probe into the felonies, said Police Chief Michael Kehoe.

Town and state police are investigating an early morning burglary at a home on Georges Hill Road, in which an unidentified middle-aged woman was seriously injured in an assault by a male assailant. The incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, January 15, at the home on the lower section of Georges Hill Road. Georges Hill Road links Butterfield Road to Pond Brook Road, near the Brookfield town line.

When the laboratory test results are received, police would seek an arrest warrant in the case, Chief Kehoe said. The police chief acknowledged that a suspect has been identified, but would not provide details.

“We are waiting for lab results,” said Detective Sergeant Robert Tvardzik, who is supervising the probe for town police.

“We take it as a very serious incident,” Chief Kehoe said.

Det Sgt Tvardzik stressed that the incident was “not random.”

The female victim of the assault is recovering from her injuries, he said.

Shortly before 3 am on January 15, police received two emergency 911 calls from the residence, but no one spoke during those calls.

When such calls are received at the police station, their point of origin is displayed on a computer monitor. As a matter of course, police respond to the location from which such calls are placed to check for emergencies.

The male assailant had left the residence in a vehicle just before police arrived.

During the course of the incident, the male assaulted the woman, fracturing bones in her face and wounding her body. The woman fought back and was able to place the 911 calls to police, triggering the automatic police response to the residence.

The woman told police that the male had entered her home during the early morning hours, after which the assault occurred. The woman was alone at the time.

Police have declined to provide details about whether the assailant and the victim knew one another.

The injured woman was transported to Danbury Hospital where she was treated for her various injuries and then released.

Following the incident, town police and state police worked through the day collecting physical evidence at the scene and also conducted interviews.
