The Genealogy Club of Newtown will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, February 11, in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.

The meeting will start at 7 pm, but club members will also be arriving early to converse with other genealogists, and offer help with research problems for guests and attendees.

This month’s speaker will be club chair Toni McKeen, who will discuss “The Immigrant Experience.”

What was it like for our ancestors to leave everything they knew behind, and travel far across the sea to make a new life for their family? Ms McKeen will discuss the difficulties in making it from small town to the Port City, the difficulties of traveling on a huge ship, and what many immigrants encountered once they finally arrived in America.

She will show photos and rarely seen documents, and tell the stories of those who traveled. Her discussion will include why these brave, early travelers are owed a debt of gratitude.

Light refreshments will be served, and all are welcome to attend.

Reservations are not required, but additional information is available from Bea Morgan at 203-304-1861 or Harlan Jessup at 203-426-3981.
