DUI Arrest

Police report they received a call from a witness who told them about an erratically driven vehicle that was traveling southward on South Main Street about 12:30 am on January 23, so they responded to the area.

The southbound vehicle had entered the northbound lane and then struck some guardcables along the northbound road shoulder, after which it continued traveling southward, police said. The vehicle then stopped at Bryan Lane and the witness waited in that area for police to arrive, police said.

Police investigated and then charged motorist Kevin Antolini, 30, of Waterbury with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right.

After arrest processing, police released Antolini on $500 bail for a February 4 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Three Charges

Police report they stopped a vehicle after they spotted it traveling on Main Street with a dead headlamp at about 5:16 pm on January 22.

After investigating, police charged motorist Ian Gingell, 24, of Monroe with driving with a defective headlamp and with driving with a suspended license.

After a records check, police learned of a pending arrest warrant against Gingell and they also charged him with violation of probation.

Police said they released Gingell for a February 5 appearance on the motor vehicle charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Also, police released Gingell on $7,500 bail for a February 9 appearance on the probation charge in Stamford Superior Court.

I-84 DUI Arrest

State police report they spotted motorist Suzanne Keseru, 39, of Southbury driving a vehicle about 75 to 80 miles per hour in a posted 65-mph zone on westbound Interstate 84 at about 11:40 pm on January 21 and then followed her, observing her vehicle swerving on the roadway.

State police said they stopped Keseru near the Exit 9 interchange in Hawleyville, after which they investigated, charging her with driving under the influence, speeding, failure to drive in the proper lane, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

After processing, state police released Keseru on $500 nonsurety bail for a February 1 court appearance.

Warrant

Police report that on the morning of January 22, they charged Jordan Ashby, 22, of 7 Appleblossom Lane, on a warrant, lodging one count of conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny against him.

The charge results from a December 2015 police investigation at 139 Toddy Hill Road, which is the address for Masonicare Health Center, police said.

After processing, police released Ashby on $1,000 bail for a February 3 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

Drug Offenses

At about 7:50 pm on January 22, police stopped a vehicle traveling on Main Street concerning multiple motor vehicle violations, according to police.

After an investigation, police charged two people in the vehicle with drug offenses.

Police said they charged Ricardo Ortiz, 26, of Milford with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Ortiz was released on $250 nonsurety bail for a February 9 court appearance.

Also, police said they issued Donte Ferebee, no age given, of Bridgeport an infraction on a charge of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Slippery Roadway

Motorist Peter Gorman, 53, of Easton was driving a 2002 Suzuki XL-7 SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, when he lost control of the vehicle about 7:37 pm on January 23 and it spun about, striking a barrier along the westbound road shoulder, after which the Suzuki came to rest atop a guardrail, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Gorman for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Botsford Crash

Police report that motorist Jamie Martin, 39, of 42 Bennetts Bridge Road was driving an unspecified vehicle amid slippery conditions about 9:34 am on January 23, when while northbound on South Main Street, Martin attempted to make a left turn to enter Plaza South at 266 South Main Street, but the vehicle skidded on the slick road and struck a utility pole along the southbound road shoulder.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Martin for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slick Road

Motorist Vinh Nguyen, 21, of Bridgeport was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on South Main Street about 9:40 am on January 23, and then attempted to stop for traffic conditions at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road, and Meadowbrook Road, when the vehicle went out of control on the slippery road and swerved onto the property at 327 South Main Street, hitting some shrubbery and then becoming stuck on an embankment, police report.

There were no injuries. Police gave Nguyen a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Accident At Four-Way Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Poverty Hollow Road, and Key Rock Road about 3:16 pm on January 21.

Police said the collision involved motorist Kate Alvarez, 38, of Redding who was driving a 2011 Mazda CX-9 SUV, and motorist Carrie Ann Costa, 38, of Hamden, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Prius.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Alvarez for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Hyundai vs Honda

An accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road, and Meadowbrook Road about 1:10 pm on January 21, according to police.

The two-vehicle collision involved motorist Michael Parks, 32, of Stratford, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, and motorist Bianca LeBlanc, 22, of 9 Sycamore Drive, who was driving a 2005 Honda CR-V SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to evaluate both drivers, police said. Police said they issued Parks an infraction for violating a traffic signal.

Sandy Hook Collision

At about 9:20 pm on January 20, motorist Stephanie Schubert, 21, of 25 Alberts Hill Road, who was driving a 2015 Mazda 3 auto, was attempting to exit the driveway at 100 Church Hill Road and turn left onto westbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Jillian Moses, 26, of 35 Equestrian Ridge Road was driving a 2012 Honda Accord auto eastward on Church Hill Road, police aid.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Schubert a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a driveway.

Bad Check

After learning that Fairfield police had detained John Dobyan, 28, of Fairfield, Newtown police went to Fairfield and transported Dobyan to Newtown where they charged him on a warrant with one count of issuing a bad check.

The charge stems from a police investigation into a June 2015 incident. After ;processing the case, Newtown police released Dobyan on $300 bail for a February 9 court appearance.

Breach Of Peace

Police said they responded to a report of a person being threatened at 183 Sugar Street at about 4:18 pm on January 23.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Angela Evertez, 41, of 183 Sugar Street, Apt A, with breach of peace for allegedly threatening a neighbor.

Police said they released Evertez on $500 nonsurety bail for a February 9 court appearance.

School Bus Incident

At about 5:26 pm on January 19, William Moses, 74, of 16 Sleepy Hollow Road was driving a 2013 Bluebird school bus owned by All-Star Transportation northward on Gray's Plain Road and heading toward its intersection with Berkshire Road, police report.

Moses then stopped the bus and started backing it up eastward in a driveway at 1 Gray's Plain Road, when the rear end of the bus struck a stone wall, police report.

The bus carried seven child passengers. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Moses for unsafe backing.

Lobsters Lifted

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Stephen Wilkinson, 57, of Danbury went to the police station about 5:30 pm on January 26 and was charged with seven individual counts of sixth-degree larceny.

Police said that the arrest stems from their late 2015 investigation into Wilkinson allegedly stealing containers of lobster meat on multiple occasions from Caraluzzi's Market at 5 Queen Street. Police said that Wilkinson worked for a cleaning firm that was employed by Caraluzzi's when the alleged lobster thefts occurred.

Following arrest processing, police released Wilkinson from custody on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on February 23 for arraignment on the seven criminal charges.

On December 21, police had responded to the store concerning a possible theft and then investigated, charging Wilkinson with sixth-degree larceny. Wilkinson has pleaded not guilty to that charge and is awaiting trial.

Berkshire Collision

About 3:50 pm on January 26, motorist Maria Labati, 18, of 75 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic westward on Berkshire Road, near Zoar Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which Christian Wenis, 45, of 45 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a commercial 2006 Chevrolet Express van westward, struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

The Honda then struck a utility pole and some guardcables, after which it landed in a ditch, police said.

Labati reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue responded to the accident. Police said they issued Wenis an infraction for following too closely.

Sideswiped

At about 3:51 pm on January 27, motorist Kathleen Debrecini, 52, of 6 Kale Davis Road was driving a   2004 Ford F-350 truck eastward on Osborne Hill Road, near its intersection with Yogananda Street, as motorist Alfia Sutieva, 24, of 46 Little Brook Lane, was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Osborn Hill Road, police report.

Police said that Sutieva told them that she looked downward to operate her 4-wheel-drive control, after which she looked upward and found that the Jeep was traveling on the left side the road. The Jeep then sideswiped the Ford, police said.

Debrecini received minor injures and was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital, police said. Sutieva received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
This compact 2009 Subaru Impreza sedan received both front-end and rear-end damage in a two-vehicle collision with a large box truck that occurred about 2:23 pm on January 21 at the intersection of Sugar Street (Route 302) and Boggs Hill Road. Police said that motorist Kathleen Siket, 58, of 3 Spring Road was driving the Subaru northward on Boggs Hill Road and approaching a stop sign at Boggs Hill Road's intersection with Sugar Street, as trucker Michael DeFeo, 62, of Branford was driving a large 2011 Hino box truck eastward on Sugar Street. The Subaru pulled into the intersection, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Siket to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they issued Siket a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
