Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road about 4 pm January 19.

Southbound motorist Robert Campbell, 49, of 4 Stonewall Ridge Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV, stopped for a red traffic signal, police said.

Southound motorist Stacey Lasorsa, 43, of 83 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan, stopped behind the Dodge, according to police.

Southbound motorist Erica Raymond, 17, of 15 Shut Road, who was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Dodge, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Raymond a written warning for following too closely.

Ford Hit

Police report that a Botsford man was driving a 2007 Ford pickup truck southward on South Main Street near Sand Hill Plaza at about 10:40 pm January 22, when a dark-colored SUV passed the Ford on the right, near the southern entrance to the plaza where the street widens into two southbound lanes.

As the SUV passed the truck, the SUV struck the truck, damaging it and then continued driving onward, leaving the scene of the collision, police said. The Botsford man who was driving the pickup truck was not injured.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information on the identity of the SUV driver to contact them at 203-426-5841.

BMW Into Pothole

At about 8:38 am on January 26, motorist Melissa Fattibene, 31, of Underhill Road was driving a 2003 BMW 330-Xi sedan westward on Riverside Road, about 1,000 feet west of its intersection with Bancroft Road, when the vehicle struck a 18-inch-diameter pothole that was obscured by water covering the road, police report.

The impact damaged the auto. Fattibene was not injured. Police took no enforcement. Town road workers were called to repair the hazardous road condition.

Slippery Street

Motorist Sandra Eustace, 44, of Woodbury was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup truck westward near 292 Berkshire Road (Route 34) about 8 am on January 27, when the truck encountered some icy pavement and skidded into the eastbound lane, according to police.

The vehicle reentered the westbound lane but then struck some rock ledge along the westbound road shoulder, police said.

Eustace was not injured. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the scene to contain an automotive fluid spill. Police said they verbally warned Eustace for making a restricted turn.

DUI Charge

Police report that at about 5:23 pm on January 28, they stopped motorist Patrick McNulty, 19, of 58 Hilldale Road for a motor vehicle violation on Crossbrook Road.

 Police said that after investigating, they charged McNulty with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, failure to obey a stop sign, and failure to signal.

After processing, police released Mc Nulty from custody on $5,000 bail for a February 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Boggs Hill Crash

About 9:40 am January 28, motorist Richard Tarantino, 59, of 14 Mt Nebo Road was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander SUV northward near 94 Boggs Hill Road, when while negotiating a curve to the left, the SUV slid to the right on the icy-snowy road surface, causing it to go off the pavement and enter a ditch, police report.

Tarantino was not injured. Police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Newtown Youth Academy

Police said they went to the Newtown Youth Academy recreational sports complex at 4 Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills to investigate a report of a problem there about 8:30 pm January 27.

Police said they charged Alexander Stevenson, 19, of Danbury with first-degree criminal trespassing, sixth-degree larceny, and breach of peace.

According to a police report, Stevenson took two beverages from a concession stand without paying for them. Stevenson also harassed a female patron of the facility, according to police. Also, Stevenson refused to leave the premises after a manager there had asked Stevenson to leave, police said.

Following arrest processing, police released Stevenson on $400 bail for a February 10 court appearance.

Drug Charges

At about 8:37 pm on January 31, police stopped an unidentified motorist because the motorist had failed to keep to the right while driving on South Main Street near Peck’s Lane, police said.

An unidentified person who was a passenger in the stopped vehicle then became the focus of an investigation, police said. Police said they charged that passenger with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

That person is categorized a “youthful offender,” or a person under age 18 whose identity is shielded by state law. Police released the person from custody on a written promise to appear in court on February 22.

Snowplow Vs SUV

Police report a two-vehicle accident in snowy conditions involving a town truck with a snowplow affixed to it and a SUV near 78 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center during a snowy period at about 9:52 am January 28.

The 2009 heavy-duty Volvo town truck was driven by Jozef Prah IV, 39, of Southbury, police said. The town truck was traveling behind a 1998 Ford Expedition SUV driven by Jeanne Malota, 53, of 3 Erin Lane, police said.

The Ford then stopped due to heavy traffic conditions and the Volvo struck the Ford from behind with its plow blade, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Prah for following too closely.

Snowplow Hits SUV

A town truck with a snowplow affixed to it collided with a SUV in snowy conditions about 8:34 am January 28 on Walnut Tree Hill Road at its intersection with Old Green Road, police said.

In that incident, George Matern, 55, of Brookfield was driving a town-owned 2007 Volvo dump truck with a snowplow attached to it eastward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, as motorist Martha List, 55, of 11 West Street was driving a 2001 Ford Escape SUV westward there, police said.

The Volvo was negotiating a curve in the road and then slid into the opposite lane due to slippery conditions, resulting in the Volvo’s plow blade striking the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Matern for traveling too fast for conditions.

Snowplow Collision

Police report a collision between a town snowplow truck and a van at about 12:58 pm on January 28 on Turkey Hill Road.

Police said that Robert Toth, 43, of Bethel was driving a town-owned 2003 Mack truck with a snowplow affixed to it westward on Turkey Hill Road, when Toth then backed into a westbound 2003 GMC G-3500 van driven by Duane Trevail, 47, of 312 South Main Street, damaging the bumper and hood of the GMC.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Toth for unsafe backing.

Pearl Street

Police report a two-vehicle collision in snowy conditions near 16 Pearl Street about 9:05 am January 28.

In that incident, motorist Jennifer Callery, 17, of 6 Elana Lane, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta westward on Pearl Street, skidded on the snowy road and then struck a rock and a curbside mailbox at 16 Pearl Street, after which the Volkswagen struck a parked 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Collin Shaw, 42, of 38 Lakeview Terrace, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Callery for traveling too fast for conditions.

Volvo Vs VW

In snowy conditions about 9:05 am on January 28, motorist Dylan Huebner, 17, of 9 Black Cherry Lane, who was driving a 2005 Volvo S-40 T-5 sedan westward on Pearl Street, struck a parked 2002 Volkswagen Jetta sedan driven by Nadia Traian, 31, of Fairfield, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Huebner for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Street

During slippery road conditions due to snowfall at about 9:15 am January 28, motorist Marcia Bowen, 49, of 2-A Honey Lane, who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, got stuck on Pearl Street, after which the Toyota was hit by motorist Robert Damberg, 35, of 50 Spring Trail, who was driving a 2006 Ford F-350 pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Damberg for traveling too fast for conditions. Police verbally warned Bowen for failure to drive to the right.

Deer Carcass

Motorist Michael Peterson, 29, of Danbury was driving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra sedan northward near 82 Main Street about 5:53 pm January 19, when the auto struck a deer carcass that was lying on the street, police said.

The dead deer had previously been hit and killed by an unknown motorist who had then driven away from the scene, police said. Peterson was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Lexus Vs Mercury

In snowy conditions at about 9:21 am on January 28, motorist Siriporn Leemanan-Mysore, 46, of 15 Housatonic Drive, who was driving a 2008 Lexus GS-350 sedan, attempted to enter a travel lane near 76 Church Hill Road from a parked position on the road shoulder, but skidded on the slippery street, striking a parked 1998 Mercury Marquis, police said.

Leemanan-Mysore was not injured. Police verbally warned Leemanan-Mysore for unsafe movement from a parked position.

Snowy Conditions

Police report a two-vehicle accident in snowy conditions on Philo Curtis Road, near its intersection with Bishop Circle, at about 8:30 am on January 28.

Southbound motorist Mark Briganti, 46, of 9 Shut Road, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, slowed for traffic conditions, but went into a skid, police said.

Motorist Aaron Urbain, 46, of 88 Forest Drive, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic coupe, then attempted to stop, but skidded into the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Urbain for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Surface

During snowy conditions about 8:12 am January 28, motorist Victoria Schrath, 27, of Spencertown, N.Y., who was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV westward on Berkshire Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Oldsmobile was struck from behind by westbound motorist Deborah Assetta, 46, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 BMW 325-Xi sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Assetta for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sedan Vs Tree

Motorist Cassandra Damato, 20, of Southbury was driving a 1992 Acura Vigor sedan southward near 43 Hawleyville Road (Route 25) in snowy conditions about 9:19 am January 28, when she applied her brakes to slow for traffic conditions, but went into a skid and made contact with a tree, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Damato to Danbury Hospital, police said. Hawleyville firefighters responded to the accident. Police issued Damato a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Breach of Peace

Police report that at about 2 pm on January 31, Jerry Iodice, 51, of Southbury caused a verbal altercation with another customer at the Shell gas station at 286 South Main Street when the other customer refused to move his vehicle.

Police said they charged Iodice with second-degree breach of peace. After processing, police released Iodice on $400 bail for a February 11 court appearance.

Vandalism

Sometime between the late afternoon of January 29 and the early morning of January 30, someone fired a BB-gun at several rear windows at King’s Breakfast & Lunch, a restaurant at 271 South Main Street, damaging those windows, police said.

Police are investigating the case of third-degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Car Into Rails

About 10 pm on January 30, motorist Laurie Lubus-Bustamante, 44, of Danbury was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura sedan in the right lane of three lanes on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, when she fell asleep and the vehicle drifted to the right, striking some metal guardrailing on the right road shoulder, state police said.

Lubus-Bustamante was not injured. State police issued her a written warning for making an unsafe lane change.

Slippery Highway

About 7:25 am on January 28, during snowy conditions, motorist Cheryl Clark, 38, of Southbury, who was driving an unspecified vehicle eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, spun out of control and struck some guardrailing on the highway median, state police said. Clark was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Taunton Vandalism

 Police report several incidents of vandalism in the Taunton Hill Road area sometime between the evening of January 30 and morning of January 31.

Someone used red spray paint to place profane graffiti on several structures in that area, police said. The graffiti was sprayed in the Taunton Hill Road, Great Hill Road, and Sawmill Road neighborhoods, police said.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incidents to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Three Vehicles

During slippery road conditions due to snowfall, at about 8:57 am on January 28, three motorists were involved in an accident on Pine Tree Hill Road, police said.

Involved in the accident were Carmen Bell, 38, of 7 Winton Farm Road, who was driving a 2005 Land Rover LR-3 SUV; Stefanie Winkler, 21, of 59 Pine Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Focus sedan; and Frederick Gush, 44, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement due to the adverse weather conditions.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane about 9:30 am on January 29, police said.

John Donaldson, 75, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford van owned by the Education Connection of Litchfield, was waiting at a traffic signal at the intersection, when the van was struck from behind by motorist Sharon Cohen, 63, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 Saab 9-3 sedan, police said.

The van carried one 15-year-old passenger, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cohen a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

NHS Assault

Police report that early on the afternoon of January 27, they arrested a male Newtown High School student who is under age 18 on charge of third-degree assault following an investigation into an altercation which involved the arrested student and another student. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

After arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on February 8.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 7:22 pm on February 3, they spotted motorist Ian Gingell, 18, of Monroe driving an 1989 Chevrolet Camaro in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street, after which Gingell drove out of the parking lot onto Queen Street quickly and unsafely.

Police stopped Gingell to investigate and charged him with making an unsafe movement and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Gingell on a written promise to appear February 16 in Danbury Superior Court.
