Responding to the needs of the community, HealingNewtown Director Valerie Culbertson has unveiled new schedules as well as a new pricing structure for a number of workshops that had previously been announced.

*Saturday Clay Dates, February 8 (snow date February 15), March 8 (snow date March 15), and April 12, 1 to 3 pm, $5 per class (15% of class fees to benefit HealingNewtown Summer Art Programs). Attend one, two or all three workshops.

Karen Pinto and Rosiland Liljengren will lead these workshops, with each two-hour session concentrating on a different technique for hand-building with clay. No prior experience is necessary.

Participants will work on their own projects while exploring the methods of pinch pot (February) coil (March), or slab-building (April). Finished pieces will be picked up at a later date once they have been fired.

Students under age 16 must be accompanied by participating adult. All materials and supplies are provided.

Each class is limited to 12 participants. Reservations are required, and are due at least one week prior to each class.

*Weaving Workshop with Hanna Roehrs, has been changed to three Mondays — February 17 and 24, and March 3 — and will meet from noon to 3 pm (instead of the originally announced 6-8 pm, over the course of seven sessions).

There is a suggested donation of $10, payable at the door, with 20% of class fees to benefit HealingNewtown Summer Art Programs.

An introduction to weaving for beginners, this course includes instruction in advanced weaving techniques for more experienced weavers. Students will work on four harness table looms. Some yarn is available.

Beginning weavers will learn to prepare a warp, dress the loom, and complete a sampler project.

Experienced weavers will receive help designing and completing their own projects in different weave structures.

Suitable for ages 12 through adult, with family participation encouraged, class is limited to three beginner students and four intermediate/advanced students.

Registration is appreciated, but not required.

*Creative Writing From and For the Heart.

This program has been changed from Mondays at 6 pm to Saturdays, 10 am to noon. Attend one, two or all three workshops.

In addition, there is a suggested donation of $10 (instead of a class fee of $10), payable at the door, with 20% of donations received to benefit HN Summer Art Programs.

Workshops will be offered on February 22, with the theme of “I Never Told Anyone”; March 8, “Self Compassion/Acceptance I”; and March 22, “Self Compassion/Acceptance II.”

From those who have never written a word outside of assignments for school to those who are accomplished writers, all are invited to join Reggie Marra for an exploration of one’s self through the practice of writing from the heart. Participants will create a safe space and engage simple methods that will allow students to get their feelings onto the page.

Reggie Marra is an educator, poet, and Integral Coach™ and Practitioner who has brought his poetry-writing workshops to venues throughout Connecticut since 1997. He is the author of two volumes of poetry and three of nonfiction. His primary focus in recent years has been healing and alleviating unnecessary suffering through ongoing development and transformation.

Space is limited, and reservations are requested.

*An Interactive Poetry Program with Reggie Marra scheduled for Sunday February 16 has been cancelled.

*Asian Brushwork Painting will be offered as single classes on February 23, March 2 and March 23.

Led by Parem Hwah Asian Brushwork (Mary-Barrett Anders, Director), each class will focus on a different plant: February 23 will be orchids; March 2 will be cherry blossoms; and March 23 will be chrysanthemums.

Designed for beginners, students and adults, all artists are welcome and family participation is encouraged.

All materials and supplies are provided. Suggested donation is $10, payable at the door, with 20 percent to benefit HN Summer Arts Programs.
