The next Saturday Pasta Dinner at Newtown United Methodist Church will take place on February 7 in the church’s fellowship hall, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

The public is cordially invited to join church members for what has become an evening of fellowship and community spirit. Dinner is served from 5 to 7:30 pm with donation being $10, $9 for seniors, and $3.50 for children. Gift certificates are available.

Dinner includes fruit cup, salad with choice of dressings, pasta with choice of sauces (meatless, mild, or spicy), garlic bread, and an array of homemade desserts.

Dinner is followed at 7:45 pm by a performance of bluegrass, country, and folk music played by Roger Sprung & Friends. Mr Sprung, a longtime resident of Sandy Hook, is a world champion banjo player who has been recognized as a pioneer of bluegrass music by The International Bluegrass Music Museum.

The entertainment donation is $4 with dinner or $5 without. This covers all coffee, soft drinks, and snacks served during the evening from 7:45 to 10:30 pm.

Entry to fellowship hall is through the lower parking lot, behind the building, and plenty of parking is available. Call 203-426-9998 for additional information.

The church is celebrating its 25th anniversary season of presenting the monthly dinners in 2014-15. The monthly events are presented September through June.

Former Newtown resident Matt Wheeler is pictured on the job at a Nashville recording studio. The trained audio and recording engineer saw a number of projects he worked on win Country Music Association (CMA) Awards on November 5. Mr Wheeler was engineer on Miranda Lambert’s CMA winning Album of the Year, Platinum, and was assistant engineer on her CMA winning Song of the Year “Automatic.” In all, Wheeler’s projects were up for seven CMA awards in those two top categories having played technical roles on albums and songs for Lambert, Eric Church and Keith Urban.
