Newtown High School has a new head boys’ lacrosse coach. Newtown’s own Anthony Fitti joins the Nighthawks and will take over this spring.

“I am extremely excited to be coaching at NHS. There is a rich tradition of lacrosse success that I am looking forward to building off. Creating a culture by maximizing potential in three areas — classroom, community, lacrosse field — will help foster the development of the NHS student athletes,” Fitti said.

“The goal of the Newtown High School boys’ lacrosse program is to be championship-caliber student athletes in the classroom, in the community, and on the lacrosse field. As a program, we will rely on our core fundamentals: hard work, dedication, respect, and positivity,” the new coach added.

Fitti said there will be a big focus on connecting the Newtown lacrosse community from the youth level through high school. The goal is to connect the lacrosse community as one program with support on the field and off the field, using the high school program to help develop and engage young lacrosse players to be excited about being a part of Newtown lacrosse.

Newtown’s new head coach was a four-year starter, a goalie, at University of Massachusetts Boston (NCAA DIII), serving as team captain in 2018. A two-sport athlete, he played for the UMass Boston D-III ice hockey team.

His coaching experience includes a head coaching role at D-II Post University in Waterbury from September of 2017 through June 2021. Fitti also served as an assistant coach with UMass Boston from 2014-2017, including work as offensive coordinator. He was an assistant coach/defensive coordinator at Wellesley High in Wellesley, Mass. 2012-2014. Fitti also has some familiarity and experience with NHS lacrosse, having coached the freshman team in the spring of 2022.

The 35-year-old lives with his wife Allsion, daughter Adalyn, and dog Sophie. He works in business development for Select Physical Therapy in Newtown.

“I am a very family oriented person and very much looking to be a positive impact in the community I live in. I love spending my free time with my family on a walk around town or on the golf course,” said Fitti, who is a “big fan of all things Philly sports.”

Fitti has rooting interest in this year’s Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on February 12.

“Go birds!” said Fitti who, beginning in April, will have special rooting interest in Newtown’s birds — the Nighthawks.
