Threatening

Police report they investigated a complaint at Newtown Middle School on the morning of February 3 and then arrested a 14-year-old male student there on a charge of second-degree threatening, after that student had allegedly made a threat against another male student while at school.

After processing the arrest, police released the arrested boy on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on February 23, police said.

School Resource Officer Leonard Penna investigated the complaint.

State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Burglaries

Police are investigating two residential burglaries that occurred in southwest Newtown during the past week.

Police learned on the night of January 31 of a burglary that had occurred at a Storm Ridge Road home. Storm Ridge Road is a dead-end street in the Poverty Hollow area.

Also, police learned on the night of February 1 of a burglary that had occurred at a Castle Meadow Road home. Castle Meadow Road connects Hattertown Road to Brushy Hill Road.

SUV Vs Truck

Police report a two-vehicle accident involving a SUV and a garbage truck about 12:04 pm February 3 on South Main Street in Botsford.

Motorist Paul Potucek, 76, of Shelton was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee southward in the left southbound lane near 271 South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Scott Vatell, 46, of 123 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2006 GMC W-5500 garbage truck southward in the right southbound lane, police said.

The Jeep then made a lane change and collided with the garbage truck, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Potucek a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
