Irving Sets Pool Record In 100 Freestyle As Hawk Swimmers Win

Newtown High School’s boys’ swimming and diving team defeated the visiting New Fairfield Rebels 93-82 on Senior Night, February 18. Rick Irving set the pool record in the 100-yard freestyle race, making his final touch in 48.52 for one of Newtown’s many first-place finishes.

The Nighthawks started things off well as the 200 medley relay team of Peter Horan, Colden Bobowick, Mason Suba, and Irving earned first in a time of 1:44.26.

Dan Godino got second in the 200 free in 1:54.35, and Deegan Granville was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:31.05. Jack Wojtowicz was first in the 50 with a time of 24.84.

In the diving competition, Joe Moran earned third with a score of 125.60.

Suba took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.67. After Irving won the 100 free, Godino was first in the 500, clocking in at 5:05.95.

The 200 free relay of Irving, Trey Hazard, Wojtowicz, and Suba was first in a time of 1:42.55.

Horan took the top spot in the 100 backstroke race in 1:01.52, sealing the team win.

Newtown exhibitioned the final two events. Bobowick had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:08.18.

The fastest 400 free relay time was turned in by the team of Irving, Wojtowicz, Suba, and Tobias Becker in 3:45.84.
