No Curbside Recycling Pickup Friday, February 25

The Town of Newtown has announced curbside recycling pickup will not be done Friday, February 25. The announcement was made Thursday afternoon, February 24, and included the additional note that the decision was made to postpone Friday's regular pickup due to anticipated inclement weather.

Homeowners who have their recycling picked up on Friday mornings should instead put this week's recycling out Friday night or early Saturday morning. Drivers will be out Saturday, February 26.

The National Weather Service is watching a storm that has the potential to drop 6 inches of snow on Newtown before the system moves out of the area late Friday afternoon.

Snow should be arriving after 3 am Friday, according to the weather service at 3 pm Thursday. Wind chill values will be between 20-25 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 90%, and total night-time snow accumulation if 1-3 inches is possible.

Friday will dawn with snow, freezing rain and sleet before 2 pm. There will then be a chance of rain between 2 and 5 pm, then a slight chance of rain, snow, and sleet after 5 pm, all according to the weather service.

The temperature high will be 37 degrees, wind chill values will be between 15-25 degrees, and an east wind of 5-10 mph will become northwest in the afternoon.

Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of about 0.1 of an inch is possible; new snow and sleet accumulation of 1-3 inches is possible.

By Friday evening there is a “slight chance” of rain, snow and sleet before 8 pm. Skies will be partly cloudy, with a low around 15 degrees, and a northwest wind of 7-10 mph.

Chance of precipitation for Friday evening is 20%.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 10 pm Thursday until at least 6 pm Friday.

Saturday is currently expected to be mostly sunny, with a high around 32, wind chill values between 5-15, and northwest wind around 8 mph. No additional precipitation.
