A Plea In Verse
A Plea In Verse
To the Editor:
The mission of Donate To Skate is to reach out to residents, organizations and businesses in Newtown to raise funds for a safe place for skateboarders to skate. The fundraising campaign called Donate To Skate was started in March 2007. It is fully supported by Newtown Parks & Recreation and they have a special bank account set up in which they keep all donations given.
Skateboarding is a popular, healthy form of recreation for our youth. In providing a skateboard park for these athletes we will have served their need to skateboard in a professionally built skateboard park, which is paramount for their safety while practicing this sport.
Hereâs a poem taken from our website that sums up our campaign in a nut shell:
Poetically Correct
For kids in Newtown, Opportunities abound.
Lotâs of choices to play sports all year round.
Most of the action takes place on home turf.
Courts & fields yield zest & appeal.
For a minute let your mind ponder,
Newtown offers many teams mostly everything they need.
However there is a homeless one, & they need all of us to get the job done!
Skateboarders must have a safe place to skate.
Letâs hurry folks, itâs not too late.
The turf thatâs required, 12,000 square feet has been acquired
But we need to hurry or it may expire.
A skateboard park is what skaters desire.
A home built of ramps & rails, allows every skateboard to swiftly sail.
The fundraising campaign called âDonate To Skateâ needs contributions, itâs getting late.
A little sum from everyone is sure to get the project done!
Take a look around, Skaters unsafely skating in our home town!
I believe Newtown understands the logic in providing our youth with a skateboard park.
Letâs get together, weâve got what it takes to give our skaterâs a safe place to skate!
Every donation in any amount counts! Come on Newtown educators, coaches, business owners, police officers, firemen, doctors, nurses, dentists, secretaries, lawyers, EMTs, town employees, town officials, veterinarians, realtors, organizations, associations, churches, restaurants, students, residents, clubs, contractors, plumbers, electricians, painters, all the sports teams of every kind, waiters, waitresses, bus drivers, schools. Take up a collection where you work. A few dollars each adds up! Do it today! Please consider helping us! Our website is donatetoskate.com. All the info on how to donate is there.
Sincerely,
