Donna L. Mellen

Head Cook At RIS

Donna L. Mellen, 51, of Newtown, beloved wife of D.J. Mellen, died February 24 at Danbury Hospital. Mrs Mellen was born on December 24, 1955, in Bridgeport, and was the daughter of the late James A. and Juanita (Moran) Krattenmaker.

Mrs Mellen was the head cook for Reed Intermediate School and was a member of the SWC Wrestling Conference. She was a fantastic cook, decorator, and hostess. She was extremely proud of her black bear decoration theme at a vacation home in Jewett, N.Y., as well as many other decorating projects that brought her great joy.

Survivors in addition to her husband D.J., include two sons, Nicholas and Joseph Feola of Sandy Hook; one sister, Linda Oppedisano and her husband, Gary, of Trumbull; father-in-law, James Mellen and his wife, Laurie, of Easton; and mother-in-law, Judy Slosson and her husband, Lonnie, of Westport; two nephews, Gary and Paul Oppedisano; grandfather, Donald J. Miller and his wife, Carolyn, previously of Newtown. One brother, Leonard Cagginello; and one sister, Rosemarie Moody, predeceased her.

A funeral service took place February 28 in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, Monroe. Interment will take place in the spring at Newtown Village Cemetery.
