Writers Invited To Explain Why It Is ‘Never Too Old To Play’

Though Older Americans Month is still three months away, the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging wanted to give all you poets, essayists and other writers a head start: WCAAA is sponsoring an essay contest seeking the best interpretation of the Older Americans Month theme, which this year is “It’s Never Too Old To Play.”

The Connecticut Association of Area Agencies on Aging (C4A) invites essays from around the state on what this year’s theme means to you. The state Department of Social Services Division will choose winners from each of the five regions with one grand champion chosen from the regional winners.  There will be a $25 American Express gift card for the regional winner (additional prizes are still being arranged).

The grand champion will be invited to read his or her essay at the Annual C4A Conference on October 31 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Essays should be no more than 500 words. Writers should include their name, age, contact phone number and, if available, an e-mail address. Send entries to WCAAA — Attention Alyssa Cole, 84 Progress Lane, Waterbury CT 06705.

The contest is open to all ages. The essay due date is Monday, April 23. Winners will be notified on Friday, May 4.

By entering, writers agree that their essay will become the property of the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging and will not be returned. WCAAA reserves the right to print and display the essays and photographs of contest winners.

Employees of any Area Agency on Aging and DSS are welcome to participate, but not eligible to receive prizes.

For additional information or to donate a prize for any of the winning essayists, call Alyssa Cole at 203-757-5449 or 800-994-9422.
