First Woman School Bus

Driver For Monroe

Margery A. Nagy, 82, of Newtown died February 24 in St Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport. She was born in Bridgeport on January 29, 1924, a daughter of John W. and Ruth E. (Ruffels) Liebold.

Mrs Nagy grew up in Newtown and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1941. After high school she attended Bridgeport Beauty School and worked many years as a hairdresser. She also worked the family farm with her husband in Monroe for many years. Mrs Nagy was the first woman school bus driver for the Town of Monroe. She then enrolled in the LPN program at Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury and following graduation she worked for the State of Connecticut at Laurel Heights in Shelton and at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, retiring after 24 years of service.

Mrs Nagy enjoyed traveling in the United States, attending to the many animals at home and enjoying her grandson who was the light of her life. She was an avid churchgoer and held many church positions.

She is survived by her daughter Margery McKay and her husband, David, of Newtown; her grandson Alf McKay; an aunt, Mary Perkins of Trumbull; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her former husband Gabriel Nagy, two brothers, John and Robert Liebold, and her sister, Ruth Swenson, predeceased her.

Funeral services were held February 28 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Newtown. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.
