John Edward Hyatt, 92, died peacefully February 25 at his home in Naples, Fla., with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Sandy Hook, August 16, 1922, and was the son of the late Julia (Kilbride) Hyatt and LeRoy Hyatt.

He attended local schools and graduated from Newtown High School in 1940. He served in the US Army as a staff sergeant during World War II under General Patton, and saw action at the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr Hyatt earned an associate’s degree from the Warren Institute of Business and went on to start Hyatt Associates, an insurance agency in Danbury. Mr Hyatt was known by many for his generosity, outgoing personality, love of people, and dedication to community service. He served as president of Danbury Association of Life Underwriters and president of Danbury Independent Insurance Agents. His community service included United Way, as chairman of the Commercial Division, and as a trustee. He was also on the Board of Directors for Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut. He was a proud and faithful member of the Danbury Lions Club.

He will be missed by his daughter, Katherine Russell; his current wife, Jeanne (Anita) Talarico-Hyatt; stepchildren Thomas and Patricia Talarico, Dave Talarico, Mary Jeanne Tash; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His first wife, Mary McCarthy, and his brother, Arthur, and sister, Vera, predeceased Mr Hyatt.

Upon his retirement in 2006, Mr Hyatt spent half his time in Danbury and half his time in Naples.

He passed under the care of Avow Hospice, to whom the family is grateful for the exceptional compassionate care.

A memorial service will take place in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples FL 34105.
