Assault Charge

On the afternoon of February 24, police received a complaint from a state Department of Children and Families social worker who told them that she had been assaulted while on duty.

After investigating, police said that Kellianne Gartland, 36, of New Milford had assaulted the state worker inside a doctor's office at 143 Mt Pleasant Road.

Police charged Gartland with assault of a public safety or emergency medical worker, after which they released her on $1,000 bail for a March 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 9:40 pm February 19, they received a cellular telephone call alerting them of an erratic driver on Route 25.

Police said they investigated and spotted motorist Michele Carlson, 36, of Southbury crossing over the road's center lines, after which they pulled her over.

Police said Carlson was unable to complete field sobriety testing, after which police charged her with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving while under suspension.

After processing the case, police released Carlson on $100 bail for a March 8 court appearance.

Property Damage

Sometime between 5 pm February 17 and 11 am February 18, someone drove over a landscaping island in the parking lot at an office building at 7 Berkshire Road, damaging curbing, a lighting fixture, and several small trees, police report.

It appears that the damage was done by a large truck, possibly a tractor-trailer truck, according to police.

Police are investigating and ask people with knowledge of who caused the property damage to contact them at 426-5841.

Poverty Hollow Crash

Motorist Michael Switser, 22, of 10 Loveland Drive was driving a 1996 Ford F-350 heavy pickup truck eastward on Poverty Hollow Road about 8:15 am February 25, when Switser lost control of the truck, crossed the road's centerline and then went off the westbound road shoulder, colliding with three guardposts, police said.

Switser was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Ford Hits Toyota

At about 8:20 am February 21, motorist Angela Sequenzia, 39, of 12 Indian Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander sport-utility vehicle on Wasserman Way near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, came to a stop for a vehicle that was making a left turn in front of her, according to police.

Motorist Daniel Holmes, 36, of 6 Farmery Lane, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

Thomas Sequenzia, 18, of 12 Indian Hill Road, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was treated for back pain by local ambulance staffers, police said.

Police said they issued Holmes an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Wasserman Way

At about 9:15 am February 24, motorist Walter Vasquez, 26, of Ridgewood, N.Y., who was driving a 1991 Mazda Protege, was stopped for traffic in a left turn only lane on westbound Wasserman Way, when the Mazda was struck from behind by westbound motorist Teresa Diaz-Hennesey, 21 of Monroe, who was driving a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, police report.

Local ambulance staffers transported Walter Vasquez and Mazda passenger Lenen Basquez, 18, of Hamden, to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police issued Diaz-Hennesey a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Truck Mishap

Motorist Jody Boles, 46, of 16 Swamp Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 heavy pickup truck eastward on Jeremiah Road about 9:30 am February 21, attempted to negotiate a turn, but lost control of the truck on the snowy road during a snowstorm, resulting in an accident, police report.

Boles was not injured. Police issued Boles a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

I-84 MVA, DUI

Motorist Garrett J. Clark, 21, of Bethel was driving a 1993 Ford Probe coupe westward on Interstate 84 near Exit 18 in Waterbury about 9:30 pm February 27, when the Ford struck the metal-beam guardrailing on the highway median, state police said.

Several motorists reported the accident to state police. Clark continued driving westward after the collision.

State police said they then spotted a vehicle near Exit 11 in Newtown that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the Waterbury accident and stopped it, after which they investigated and charged Clark with driving under the influence and with evading responsibility. Clark was not injured in the accident, state police said.

After processing his arrest, state police released Clark on $500 bail for a March 16 appearance in Waterbury Superior Court.

Highway DUI

State police report they stopped motorist Jimmie Harrison, 42, of Danbury, who was driving westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 5:40 pm February 26, after which they investigated. Harrison failed field sobriety testing, after which he was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while under suspension, state police said.

Harrison was released on $1,000 bail for a March 7 court appearance.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Colleen Hall, 39, of 20 Brookbridge Drive turned herself over to them on the morning of February 28 and was charged with driving under the influence, police said.

The charge stems from an early morning accident on January 14, police said. In that accident, Hall was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee northward on Glen Road in dense fog at about 1:25 am, when the auto went out of control and struck an embankment along the northbound road shoulder, causing it to roll over. Ambulance volunteers then transported Hall to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a hand injury.

After processing the charge, police released Hall on $100 bail for a March 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Minivan Vs Deer

Motorist Vicki McColl, 36, of 5 Putnam Drive was driving a 2000 Ford Windstar minivan northward on Hattertown Road, near its intersection with Merlin's Lane, about 6:30 pm February 26, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police report.

Neither McColl, nor two child passengers in the Ford, were injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Castle Hill Crash

Police report a one-car accident on Castle Hill Road, about 1,000 feet east of its intersection with Taunton Hill Road, about 8 pm February 26.

Motorist Gregory Williams, 21, of Naugatuck was driving a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire coupe westward, when the auto's right tires encountered a sandy area, causing the vehicle to go out of control, police said. The Pontiac entered the eastbound lane and then struck two trees, police said. The vehicle came to rest facing eastward in the eastbound lane.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident.

Williams and back seat passenger Marnie Werner, 18, of Sandy Hook were treated at the scene for injuries and refused further treatment, police said. Front seat passenger Justin Gaynor, 17, of 12 Alberts Hill Road was not injured, police said.

All three people in the vehicle were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident, police said.

Police issued Williams an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Lester Road

Motorist Francis Susca, 48, of North Salem, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer, which was hauling a trailer, westward on Lester Road about 9:30 am February 24, police said.

At that time, motorist Edward Dâ'mico, 67, of 57 Dodgingtown Road was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Blazer eastward there, according to police.

Because the road is narrow and the trailer was wide, the Chevrolet stopped to allow the Ford to pass by it, police said.

But as the Ford passed by, the trailer that the Ford was hauling struck the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Susca a written warning.

Warrant

Police charged Kelly Kuznicki, 17, of Brookfield on a warrant on February 28, listing the offenses of failure to respond to an infraction and simple trespassing.

The trespassing charge stems from a September 2004 incident, according to police. Police released Kuznicki on $92 bail for a March 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Danbury Man

Police report they charged Ramon Tavarez, 50, of Danbury on a warrant on March 1, listing a charge of failure to maintain automotive insurance.

The charge stems from a November 2004 automobile accident, police said. Police released Tavarez on a promise to appear in court March 15.

Buttonball Drive

After investigating a January 1 one-car accident on Buttonball Drive in Sandy Hook, police sought and received an arrest warrant for the motorist involved in the crash.

Police said that on March 1 they charged William McLaughlin, 21, of 38 Buttonball Drive with evading responsibility and with third degree criminal mischief.

Police said that on the morning of January 1, McLaughlin was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Beretta eastward on Buttonball Drive, when the vehicle slid off the right side of the road while making a curve. The auto struck curbing, two shrubs, and a stone wall and also tore up a 38-foot-long section of lawn at 35 and 39 Buttonball Drive, police said.

McLaughlin posted $50 bail for a March 16 court appearance.

Parking Lot Vandalism

Police report that sometime between 9 pm February 28, and 7:30 am March 1, someone slashed two tires on a vehicle that was parked near the Dunkin Donuts store at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Snowplow Accident

Police report a minor accident between a town snowplow and a parked heating fuel delivery truck on Shut Road in Dodgingtown about 11 am March 1.

Police said that an unoccupied 1999 International fuel tanker, which was delivering fuel, was parked in front of 7 Shut Road. The tanker's driver was Fabio DeSousa, 31, of Danbury.

At that time, a westbound town-owned 1997 Ford F-4000 truck, which was plowing snow and was driven by Paul Martin, 63, of Brookfield, was traveling in the area, police said.

As the town snowplow truck passed by the fuel tanker, the two vehicles' exterior left, rear-view mirrors collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned DeSousa for improper parking.
