Police report that at about 2:19 pm on February 24, Theodore Hunt, 45, of Waterbury was driving a town-owned 2005 Ford F-550 truck eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, near its intersection with Hanover Road, as school bus driver Tracy Degenhardt, 43, of 32 Engleside Terrace was driving a 2008 school bus, which was carrying about 32 students from Newtown Middle School and Newtown High School, westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road.

The roadway’s width was reduced at that time due to the presence of snowbanks along its sides, police said.

The school bus stopped to allow the truck to pass by, but as the truck moved past the bus, the left side of the truck struck a retractable stop sign positioned on the left side of the bus, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Motorist Kirsten Dennean, 21, of Haddam, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Nissan, pushing the Nissan into the rear end of the Honda coupe, police said.

Dennean reported an injury and was evaluated at the scene, but refused medical transport, police said. Police said they gave Dennean an infraction for following too closely.

Botsford Accident

Police report an accident involving a town-owned snowplow truck, which was performing snow removal, and a pickup truck at about 7:30 am February 21 at the intersection of South Main Street and Meadowbrook Road.

Police said a town-owned 1990 Autocar dump truck with a snowplow attached to it, which was driven by Joseph Pratt, 53, of 4 Meadowbrook Road, had just completed plowing the eastbound lane of Meadowbrook Road and was in the process of turning around on South Main Street in order to head westward on Meadow Brook Road.

While it was maneuvering, the Autocar backed up and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kenneth Tardie, 47, of 13 Lazybrook Road, police said.

The Chevrolet had been following the snowplow truck eastward on Meadowbrook Road and had intended to make a right turn onto southbound South Main Street, police said.
