School Bus Involved In Multi-Vehicle Accident

By Andrew Gorosko

A large school bus, which was carrying 10 high school student passengers, was involved in a four-vehicle, multiple-impact accident on Toddy Hill Road in Botsford about 6:50 am March 2, during snowy conditions, police said.

There were no injuries in the mishap, police said.

According to a police report on the accident, motorist Felix Morocho, 35, of Danbury, was driving a 1991 Toyota pickup truck southbound on Toddy Hill Road in the vicinity of High Bridge Road, when he attempted to negotiate a curve to the right, but skidded and entered the northbound lane, sideswiping a northbound 1995 GMC school bus driven by Fred Pendergast, 67, of 23 Riverside Road, Sandy Hook.

After the pickup truck sideswiped the school bus, the truck slid sideways in the northbound lane, rolled onto its right side and then struck a northbound 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Christine B. Ambrose, 53, of Monroe.

At that time, a southbound 1994 Hyundai Elantra driven by Reinoso Hugo, 36, of Danbury, slid from the southbound lane into the northbound lane and struck the bus.

The multiple-impact accident caused heavy damage to the pickup truck and moderate damage to the school bus, Chevrolet and Hyundai, police said.

Police issued Morocho an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive to the right and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Police issued Hugo an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to obtain a valid driver’s license. Police said Hugo has a license from Ecuador, which is not valid.
