Eagle Scout Court Of Honor Celebrated

An Eagle Court of Honor was held recently at Newtown Meeting House for Ryan DiLuoffo, son of Alice and Vincent DiLuoffo of Sandy Hook.

The award ceremony was attended by fellow Scouts and family members. Ryan is the 61st Eagle Scout from Troop 270 in Newtown.

Ryan started his trail to becoming an Eagle Scout with Pack 170 of Newtown in June 2002. Then he became a Scout with Troop 70 and joined Troop 270 in June 2006.

He has held various leadership positions, including troop guide, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and junior assistant scoutmaster. Ryan is also a founding member and past president of Venture Crew 270, a coed high adventure Scouting group. Ryan enjoyed many camping and high adventure trips in New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

To become an Eagle Scout, Ryan earned a total of 25 merit badges; 12 of them required for Eagle. He received the 50-Miler Scouting Award twice and excels at rifle shooting.

Ryan’s Eagle Project was sprucing up the Senior Courtyard at Newtown High School last spring. Ryan led a group of volunteers in refurbishing the picnic tables, trimming hedges, planting annuals, and creating a senior class signature plaque for the area. A new picnic table was also constructed.

Ryan graduated from Newtown High School in 2009 and attends Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va.
