Grade 5

Newtown 21, New Canaan 16: Newtown won behind the offense of Megan Doyle. Olyvia Shaw, Haley Conrad, Allie Indelicato, Kamdynn Moroney, and Colleen McCarthy scored.  Jessica Maturo and Nikki Zacarro played great defense and Megan Goyda came up with  rebounds. 

Newtown 27, Stamford 19: Megan Goyda scored a season-high 19 points behind the great offensive skills of Meghan Doyle with several assists. Kamdynn Moroney played great defense, pulled down key rebounds and came up with steals to help seal the win. Jessica Maturo and Nikki Zacarro played great defense and forced turnovers. 

 

Boys

 

Grade 6

Newtown 60, St. Mary’s of Ridgefield 30: Ethan Carpenter, with 11 points, and Josh Houle, with 8 points, shot well from the outside. Andrew Svanda had 10 and controlled the boards. Michael Doyle had 8 and Devin Luzietti scored 7 and drove to the basket with total control. Joey Duero played well on defense.

Newtown 55, Westport PAL 54 (overtime): Jared Pearson led the team with 25 points. Ethan Carpenter had 8 points and Matt Gerics scored 6 points and racked up the assists. Jamie Cohcrane and Dillon Palumbo each scored 4 points. Devin Luzietti played a strong defensive game, shutting down Westport’s leading scorer.

Newtown 56, Monroe 34: Ethan Carpenter and Jared Pearson played well, both scoring 17. Andrew Svanda controlled the boards and scored 9. Micahel Doyle scored 6 and Josh Houle had 2 and controlled the offense. Dillon Palumbo and Devin Luzietti both had 4 steals and played great defensive.

Weston 55, Newtown Gold 39: Matt Maturo led Newtown with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Ryan Shaw had 6 points and a dozen rebounds. Tim VanderHave scored 6 points, and Mason Melillo and Austin LeBlanc had 4 apiece. Kieran Lynch had 3 points and 2 rebounds. James Frazzetta saw time at the point and had 5 rebounds and 3 assists in addition to a basket.

Darien 49, Newtown Gold 25: Newtown ran out of steam in this second game of a doubleheader. Ryan Shaw had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. Matt Maturo scored 8 points. Geoff Santore played aggressive defense and added a basket. 

Newtown Gold 38, Wilton 31: Newtown grabbed a season-high 62 rebounds in winning the regular season finale. Matt Maturo was the high man with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Ryan Shaw added 9 points and 21 rebounds. Matt Elias used his speed on his way to 8 points. Alex Gerbo added a basket and 3 rebounds. Mason Melillo had 9 boards. James Frazzetta had another fine all-around effort with 3 assists and 6 rebounds. Austin LeBlanc hit a big 3-pointer to keep Newtown ahead in the fourth.

Grades 7-8

Thunder 36, Huskies 29: For the Thunder, Nick Lotrecchiano was the high scorer with 23 points. Wiley Zahansky was the assist leader, Brandon O’Sullivan the defensive star and Cameron Eiseman the rebound leader. The Thunder used a trapping zone defense to hold the Huskies in check. For the Huskies, Chris Carroll was the high scorer with 9 points. Owen Gaston was the assist leader, Ty Runkle the defensive star and Cameron Patrick the rebound leader.

Hammerheads 34, Wildcats 29: For the Hammerheads, Will Dalton was the high scorer with 11 points. Danny Colucci was the assist leader, Andy DeWolfe the defensive star, and Jordan Salesen the rebound leader. Balanced attack with Spencer Brindley chipping in with 6, Ryan Szalay with 7 points and 5 out of 6 from foul line. For the Wildcats, Kaj Djonne and Jordon Sock were with high scorers and played well at both ends. Patrick Berger was the assist leader and Mitchell Godin the defensive star.  Sean Reilly played well. 

Eagles 47, Wolfpack 35: For the Eagles, Julian Dunn was the high scorer with 25 points. Joe Santella was the assist leader, Sean Kemsley the defensive star and Dave Corsi the rebound leader. For the Wolfpack, Virgil Procaccini was the high scorer with 18 points. Aiden Peterschack was the defensive star and Alex Romeo led in rebounds.

Nuggets 40, Celtics 36: For the Nuggets Wesley Morlock and Danny Winn were the high scorers with 12 and 6 respectively. Matt Janco was the assist leader, Danny Winn the defensive star and Carl Whippie the rebound leader. The Nuggets got key steals to seal the victory. For the Celtics, Tim Kelly was the high scorer with 14 points. Trevor Lopez was the defensive star and Tim Kelly the rebound leader.

Celtics 50, X-Men 45: For the Celtics, Tim Kelly was the high scorer with 23 points. Jon Schwartz was the assist leader, and Trevor Lopez the defensive standout. For the X-Men, Tom Floros was the high scorer with 24 points, Kenton McCleary the assist leader, Tom Shaker the defensive star, and David Csordas the rebound leader.

Runnin’ Rebels 36, Magic 34: For the Rebels, Jimmy Leidlein was the high scorer with 10 points.  Shane Quimby was the assist leader, Jake Moore the defensive star and Mason Galanis the rebound leader. For the Magic, Riley Cross was the high scorer with 14 points, Garrison Buzzanca was the assist leader, Mitchell Steward the defensive star and Daryll Silverlieb the rebound leader.

Jazz 47, Heat 31: For the Jazz, Ryan Errico was the assist leader, Harry Depuy the defensive star and Austin Raftery the rebound leader. Jack Corbett, Kyle Gordon, Liam Decker, and Ryan Errico combined for 16 points. For the Heat, Andrew Pfeiffer was the rebound leader. Jack Lago, Matt White and Colin Reilly combined for 25 points in the loss.

Cavs 45, Bricklayers 33: For the Cavs, Drew Tarantino was the high scorer with 12 points. Matthew Wood was the defensive star and Graham Hubbert the rebound leader. Nick Norberg had 10 points and Richard LaPak added 8 points. For the Bricklayers, Pat Afriyie and Joey DeVellis were the high scorers with a combined 17 points. Andrew Volkers was the rebound leader.
