SOUTH CENTRAL STORM 6, NEWTOWN 2: Newtown’s aggressive play could not match up against the polished South Central premier team. The undefeated Storm played with controlled ball movement along with superb team discipline. Mike Bonsignore and Mike Vanasse each scored for the Strikers while Ryan Keogler and Sean Rawson gave strong defensive efforts. Nathan Walzer and David Kugielsky shared the goaltending duties.

BOYS U10

The Newtown Vipers competed in the Northwest District U12 Indoor Tournament and compiled a 1-4 record. The Vipers managed to stay competitive in their first three matches while losing against the Newtown 11’s, Danbury and the Newtown 12’s.

The highlight of the day for the U10’s was when Paul Andras scored the first Vipers’ goal of the day, slipping a shot past a strong New Milford goaltender in the fourth game of the day. New Milford later tied the score, but the work of Chris Meier, Kevin Troy, Kevin Davies and goaltender Danny Smith on defense enabled the offense – led by Jason Smith, Alex Bowen and Andras – to move on goal. Late in the second half, Justin Miller broke past the New Milford defense and hit a shot to the upper far post to win the game.

Drew Taylor, Tony Gallucci, Nick Kallivrousis and Max Hoagland all played well during the tournament. Hoagland scored a pair of goals in the Vipers’ final match against Watertown.

VIPERS 14, MERIDEN 8: The Vipers rallied from a 7-5 deficit (after holding an early 4-0 lead) to defeat the Meriden Magic. Paul Andras and Justin Miller scored three goals apiece while Kevin Troy and Jason Smith each had two goals. Alex Bowen, Danny Smith, Kevin Davies and Chris Meier also scored. Danny Smith (goaltender) and Meier played solid defense. The Vipers are tied with Oakwood for first in the 11-team division.
