Burley       Newman

Burley “Happy” Newman, 78, of 301 South Main Street, Newtown, died March 4 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Annie (Jones) Newman.

He was born in Bristol, Va., on May 2, 1921, a son of the late Simon and Anna (Rutherford) Newman. A Newtown resident since 1958, he had worked for more than 25 years as a mechanic at Trudeau’s Amoco Gas Station in Newtown.

Mr Newman was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the VFW Post in Newtown and a member of American Legion Post #202 in Newtown.

He is survived by a son, Charles Newman of Brookfield; a daughter, Rachel Perillo of Springfield, Vermont; a brother, Kenneth Newman of Jonesboro, Tennessee; three sisters, Mable Linkenhoker of Bristol, Vermont, and Gay Akard and Hattie Frazier of Bristol, Tennessee; three granddaughters, Rebecca and Amanda Newman and Michele Cates.

Funeral services will take place Friday, March 10, at the Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol, Tennessee Burial will be in Paperville Cemetery, Bristol.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown is in charge of arrangements.
