Helen (Gereg) Tucker

Helen (Gereg) Tucker, 90, died March 4 at her home on Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield. She was the wife of the late Harry S. Tucker, Sr.

She was the sister of Mary V. Markosky of Newtown.

Mrs Tucker was born in Brookfield on August 22, 1909, a daughter of the late Andrew and Veronica (Chervincky) Gereg. She graduated from New Milford High School in 1927 and from the Danbury Normal School in 1929. Mrs Tucker earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Danbury State Teacher’s College.

She began her teaching career at the one-room Wood Creek Schoolhouse and continued to teach in Brookfield until 1959. She retired from Berry School in Bethel in 1967.

Mrs Tucker was a member of St Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield, the Brookfield Garden Club, the Retired Teachers Association, Brookfield AARP, the Brookfield Republican Women’s Club, and the Brookfield Historical Society.

She is survived by a son, Harry T. Tucker, Jr, and his wife Kay of Brookfield; a brother, Andrew T. Gereg of Brookfield; two grandchildren, Richard Tucker of Brookfield and Peter Tucker of Warren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Anne J. Gereg, and brothers Rudolph, Joseph, George, Albert and Charles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 8 at St Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Candlewood Lake Road, Brookfield. Burial was in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, was in charge of arrangements.
