Hummer Hit

At about 9:12 pm February 23, motorist Leslie Richards, 50, of 6 Homer Clark Lane, who was driving a 2006 Hummer H-3 SUV, was waiting for traffic at a traffic signal on eastbound Mt Pleasant Road at its intersection with Hawleyville Road, according to police.

At that time, an unknown vehicle attempted to pass the Hummer on the right, but struck the front passenger side of the Hummer, ripping off the SUV’s grille, police said. The unknown vehicle then continued traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road. There were no injuries.

Richards did not see what type of vehicle hit the Hummer, police said. In investigating, police found white paint-transfer marks on the Hummer, indicating that a white vehicle probably struck the SUV.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of who collided with the Hummer and then drove off to call their tip line at 270-8888.

Chain Reaction

Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident involving an SUV, truck, and sedan about 5:50 pm February 25 on northbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road.

There were no injuries. Police issued Fallon an infraction for following too closely.

Town Snowplow

Police report that a town snowplow truck and a commercial box truck were involved in a collision about 3:54 am March 2 at the intersection of Berkshire Road (Route 34) and Bennetts Bridge Road. There were no injuries.

In the process of removing snow, a town-owned 1990 Autocar dump truck driven by Jeffrey Thomas, 35, of Southbury exited Bennetts Bridge Road and crossed over the northbound and southbound lanes of Berkshire Road, police said.

Trucker Hector Rivera, 48, of New Haven, who was driving a 2005 International box truck on Berkshire Road, encountered the town snowplow truck and then attempted to stop, but could not, after which the front end of the box truck struck the passenger side of the town snowplow truck, police said.

Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. Police said the incident is under investigation.

DUI Charge

Police report that at about 1:48 am February 28, they stopped motorist Patti Jean Roberts, 45, of Norwalk on South Main Street to investigate.

Police said they charged Roberts with driving under the influence and with failure to use a turn signal.

Following arrest processing at the police station, police released Roberts on $100 bail for a March 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Curbing

Motorist Richard Shuttleworth, 58, of 100 Church Hill Road was driving a 1994 Plymouth Voyager minivan northward near 40 South Main Street about 9:25 am March 2, when the vehicle struck a piece of curbing in the northbound travel lane that had been covered over by some snow, police said.

The impact damaged the vehicle’s right front tire. Shuttleworth was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Failure to Appear

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Patricia Bowers, 33, of Stratford, turned herself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of March 1, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, traveling unreasonably fast, and driving while under suspension, police said.

In the original incident, while they were using radar speed equipment last November 28, police stopped Bowers who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic on Currituck Road.

After posting $500 bail on March 1, police released Bowers for a March 18 court appearance.

Pontiac Hits Guardrails

Motorist Jacqueline Kelley, 21, of Shelton, who was driving a 2007 Pontiac sedan southward on Berkshire Road, near Checkerberry Lane, about 11:12 pm March 1, lost control of the vehicle in snowy conditions and the Pontiac went off the right side of the road, striking some guardrailing, police said.

Kelley and two passengers each were wearing seatbelts and all three were uninjured in the crash, police said.

Police said they verbally warned Kelley for traveling too fast for conditions.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Christine Sgammato, 55, of 2 Settlers Lane, who was driving a 2000 Toyota RAV-4 SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, was waiting in a line of traffic, when motorist Alan Ritchie, 17, of 3 Bradley Lane, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala sedan, drove into the rear end of the Toyota about 4 pm February 27, police said.

Northbound motorist Robert Ross, 43, of Thomaston, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Express box truck behind the SUV, attempted to stop but could not stop due to defective brakes, police said. The box truck then turned onto the right road shoulder, climbed an embankment and came down with the driver’s side of the truck coming to rest against the passenger side of the SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ross a written warning for having defective brakes.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, John DiGirolamo, 28, of Bridgeport turned himself over to police at the police station on the morning of March 5, and was arrested on two counts of second-degree failure to appear in court and one count of breach of peace, police said.

Police said that the original charge of breach of peace stems from a December 9, 2006, incident in Newtown. Police held DiGirolamo on $5,000 bail for an appearance later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Two Charges

About 11:51 pm March 1, during heavy snow, motorist Matthew Kohler, 36, of Monroe was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, near the Housatonic Railroad overpass, when the truck went out of control in the snow and entered the eastbound lane, police said.

Motorist Scott Bierce, 18, of 9 Loveland Drive, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet K-1500 pickup truck eastward, attempted to stop, but the two trucks collided in the eastbound lane, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said Kohler left the scene of the accident and was later located at his home. Police charged Kohler with evading responsibility and with driving without automotive insurance. Kohler is scheduled to appear in court on March 19.

Police charged a 15-year-old boy involved in the incident with third-degree assault. Both males are scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges. Because both are under age 18, state law prevents police from disclosing their identities.

South Main Crash

About 5 pm March 4, motorist Katherine Orlando, 19, of 7 Lazybrook Road, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Avalon sedan southward on South Main Street, was slowing to make a left turn into a commercial driveway at 151 South Main Street, when the Toyota was struck from behind by a southbound commercial 2008 Nissan Versa sedan driven by Brian Athans, 18, of 20 Vining Road, police said.
