Middle School Basketball Team Falls In  Tourney Title Game

Newtown Middle School’s eight grade boys’ basketball team reached the championship game of the Jockey Hollow Tournament before falling to Bethel 55-52 on February 26.

Patrick Riccardi had another outstanding game to lead the team with 13 points and was named to the All-Tournament team. Gavin Scallon added 10 points and was also named to the All-Tournament team. Sean Elliott and Justin Devellis played outstanding games at the point and combined for 13 points. Eric Fiore and Reid Schmidt played strong defense inside to force Bethel into shooting it from outside. Mike Daubert and Chris Devaney had solid games off the bench. Mike Scharfenberg, Wyatt Depuy and Stephen Conway also contributed to the success of the team at the tournament.

Newtown capped off a 12-1 season.
