Newtown High School's musical production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast will run next week from March 16 to 20, and for the first time a breakfast for children with characters from the show is being offered, Saturday, March 19.

According to the production's publicity chair and parent volunteer Larry Petershack, tickets are selling fast in advance for both the performances of the musical and the Fairy Tale Breakfast.

The Fairy Tale Breakfast will run from 10 am until noon on March 19, and will be held in the high school's cafetorium. Children and their families are invited to meet and greet the characters from the production, including Belle, the Beast, Gaston, and LeFou. Children will also have the chance to get autographs, do crafts, and dance. Breakfast will be prepared and served by the high school's culinary students. All children will receive a gift bag and a special pen. Children are welcome to wear costumes to the event.

Tickets for the Fairy Tale Breakfast are $15 per person, and there are only 150 tickets available. Tickets for both the breakfast and the show's performances can be purchased online at nhsc.booktix.com.

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a selfish and unkind young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end. But time is running out. The Beast must learn his lesson soon or he and his household will be doomed forever.

The high school is seeking both sponsors for the production and audience support to offset the production costs. Audience support can be offered online at gofundme.com/nhsbeauty.

The show's title sponsor is Ingersoll Auto of Danbury. Ingersoll Auto of Danbury is also matching donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, in donations to the GoFundMe account, according to the school. Those planning to attend the show are asked to purchase tickets via the online box office site, nhsc.booktix.com. Tickets will only be sold the day of the shows if they are available.

The performance schedule at the high school, 12 Berkshire Road, is Wednesday, March 16, through Saturday, March 19, at 7 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20, at 2 pm.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $14 for students and senior citizens.

The production crew includes director Jane Matson, producer by Janice Gabriel, musical director and pit conductor Brett Boles, Kurt Eckhardt as rehearsal pit conductor, and Brian Tenney as technical director.
