Sandy Hook firefighters check a 2017 Hyundai Elantra on I-84 West just prior to Exit 11 after it crashed into a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee around 8:25 am Wednesday, March 1. CT State Police report Andrea R. Keller, 31, of Meriden, operating the Hyundai, failed to stop when the Jeep Cherokee in front of her vehicle slowed for heavy traffic. The Hyundai crashed into the Jeep, which crashed into the high speed guardrail before coming to rest facing oncoming traffic. The Hyundai then crashed into the guardrail along the slow speed side of the highway. Sandy Hook and Newtown Hook & Ladder were dispatched, as was Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Stony Hill and Nuvance ambulance crews ended up transporting the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital, however. Keller was issued infractions for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart resulting in a motor vehicle accident and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. —Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue photo
