Nighthawk Track Athletes Compete In National Competitions

Newtown High School standout track athletes competed in a pair of national competitions, taking on the best runners, jumpers, and throwers from around the country, during the second weekend of March.

At New Balance Nationals in New York City:

*Kayleigh Troy competed in high jump Rising Stars division.

*Riley Powers competed in the 400 Meter Championship Division. She placed 41st with a time of 1:00.71.

*Hannah Snayd competed in the 400 Meter Rising Stars Division. She placed 52nd with a time of 1:02.99.

*The girls’ 4x800 relay team competed in the Championship Division. The team, consisting of Snayd, Ally McCarthy, Sophia Guevara, and Powers, placed 26th with a time of 9:43.46.

At Nike Nationals, in Staten Island, N.Y.:

*Elise Barricelli competed in the 400 Meter Rising Stars Division. She placed 36th with a time of 1:02.46.

*The girls’ 4x200 relay competed in the Rising Stars Division. Ella Hall, Rachael Albrecht, Amelia Daly, and Barricelli placed 30th with a time of 1:51.206.

*The boys’ 4x800 competed in the Rising Stars Division. Aidan Budge, Colby Harrell, Soheib Dissa, and Cameron Whorf placed seventh with a time of 8:21.95.
